No, you just simply can't compare the controller to the ability of an FPS player with a mouse and keyboard.
It is two entirely different levels.
If you threw even me in a tournament with a keyboard and mouse, and every other professional gamer had a controller for CoD4 I would whip my dick out on them as they put their heads down in shame.
I don't put a fraction of the time those faggots do and I'd still make them look absolutely foolish.

noway, baldur's gate TuTu, bcz bg1 was better than bg2 save for its buggy engine and inability to dual wield. bg2 doesn't even have any connecting areas. there's no random wilderness to wander around in. that was always my favorite part of bg1, hands down. exploring every inch of all the 30+ outdoor zones or whatever they had. then eventually you'd find that hardcore bridge ruin place, and the weird little hobbit village in the east

Ugh... how the fuck does it NOT compute after having this discussion at least 10 times? If you are playing CoD4 on the console, EVERYONE else is using the controller as well so the playing field is even. If you suck at the game, you will get your ass handed to you. If you are good, you will clean up. The controller is not a handicap because EVERYONE ELSE IS USING IT AS WELL!
Get it now?

I never missed the point dipshit.
My point is that it's a sub par peripheral for that purpose. I could give a flying fuck less if it's sub par for everyone equally.
You want to practice playing on a sub par platform, go for it.

No, I really think you missed the point. It's EXACTLY THE SAME. keyboard and mouse is better to you because you've probably used one for the last decade. i bet you've used a keyboard and mouse 15x as much as you've used a controller. do you really have to wonder why you're more comfortable with a keyboard/mouse? it's so retarded. just as an example, i played halo 2 for a couple years and never touched a PC game. when i bought day of defeat i got my ass handed to me for months. i wish i had a controller the whole time
God what a stupid thing to argue about. Do you actually care this much? When someone invites you over to play Halo or CoD4 for the afternoon do you go "well excuse me, but I just can't bring myself to use such a sub-par peripheral for an FPS. see you guys later
"I doubt it. Now just shut up. It's not important. No one cares as much as you do.

The controller doesn't have the technical capability to be as accurate and as versatile as the keyboard/mouse. It is simply impossible in their current state.
You can get good with them, sure. I never said otherwise. The keyboard/mouse combo will always trump it, hands down, though. (I'm speaking PURELY in the FPS scene. Which I have actively competed in on several games. Amateur and professional...)
I would LOVE to see someone bunnyhop with a controller. Or any number of skills I learned that I know are physically impossible to do with a controller for that matter.
Like whipping a 180-jump, popping off a shot, whip back forwards before you land, and then while previously crouched before landing to gain more momentum, jump again. All while aiming at what you suspect is behind you, not knowing exactly where. Love to see you do all that while aiming.
I have an entire list of skills I have that barely dent the surface of the real professionals depending on the engine. (they vary game to game since they are essentially "exploits" of the physics of said engine)
Don't get into mechanics with me for first person shooters attempting to claim some fabricated equality with a sub par peripheral for that genre. It doesn't exist and anyone who knows anything would tell you.

P.S. and no, I just won't play an FPS with a controller. I refuse to do it.
It's like everyone is walking in heels when my shoes are right next to me. I could wear the heels like the fags, but why?
I'll play anything else, but I refuse to touch an FPS with a controller anymore. I gave them too many chances to not suck, and they failed every time.

Re: Fallout 3
no shit. sorry, but all those "problems" are only encountered by newbs, because those "strats" aren't very impressive or difficult. if you can't turn around mid-air and kill someone in halo, or press the jump button repeatedly to bunny hop, you probably shouldn't be playing a console in the first place. not to mention bunny hopping is for bitches anyway
you take this way too seriously. unless you play MLG, which i doubt, you need to shut up, you sound like a huge fuckin nerd. i hope you also ONLY use a two-part joystick to play flight games and a steering wheel with paddle shifters and pedals for racing games
what an unbelievably stupid thing to care about. i can't believe you even got me to make these posts ><

Re: Fallout 3
It is very clear you don't have even the tiniest grasp on any of these skills.
Bunny hopping is a lot more involved than simply pushing the jump button in succession.
They are what separates players like me from players like you.
Jay is for fighting games as I am for first person shooters. Unfortunately he isn't here to post the similarities in the divide between the levels of players which I am sure he understands as I do. (fps to fighting, noob to pro/am)

Re: Fallout 3
Hell, as I posted before, professional Starcraft players operate at rates of 300 to 500 actions per minute. They control their units down to the range of individual pixels to maximize their range advantages. I saw matches at Blizzcon between some of the best in the world.
Now, you tell me how anyone could get that level of action and that level of precision with a gamepad. It simply is not possible. Period.
A gamepad is a less precise instrument than a keyboard and mouse combination. It's just that simple. Which is more fun is a subjective argument. Which is more precise is not.

Re: Fallout 3
That's my entire point. I thought it was that cut and dry. There is no room for debate on a technical level.
I was speaking from my specific level of experience, which is FPS. I don't like 90% of the RTS out there, so I didn't venture there.

Dude you've never even once said the name of a single FPS you play. You've never commented constructively (with your username) on any FPS threads that I've seen. Far as I'm concerned you're all talk. You have 0 credentials. And there's no way to prove otherwise BECAUSE YOU DON'T TELL US WHAT YOU PLAY. I'd rape your newb ass at Day of Defeat or Crysis or Fear. Guaran-fuckin-tee you
And no, I'm sorry, but bunny hopping is the act of jumping to avoid being shot. That's what it means in the real, actual online community of FPS players that actually exist. In fact I specifically go to servers that don't allow it and bitches that do it get kicked ASAP. Seriously would you jump around like a kangaroo IRL to avoid bullets? Oh I'm sorry, everyone that plays Day of Defeat must be totally wrong about it and the real deal are these secret FPS games you play.
If you play Quake or Unreal TOurnament or something gay like that then nevermind. I never play those and I never will again because they're so corny and unrealistic
i also play fighting games all the time. that's another reason consoles have the upper hand. tekken 3-5. hwoarang plz. i wanna play jay~
Re: Fallout 3
I guess the point you are missing is that the game isn't any less fun and is in fact MORE fun for me because of the controller. It adds another level of challenge and makes the game harder than it's PC counterpart.
Re: Fallout 3
See, that's why I specifically stated that whether or not a given control method is more fun is a subjective issue. There is no objective value there. You have more fun with a gamepad, and for you, that's 100% valid, and more power to you. I would never attempt to try and argue that it isn't more fun for you, because manifestly, gamepads ARE more fun for you, and trying to argue that would be like trying to argue that blue is better than green. Fin, on the other hand, has more fun with keyboard and mouse, and for him, that's just as valid as your stance is to you.
My sole point of argument is that on an OBJECTIVE level, there is no question but that keyboard and mouse is a more precise system of control than a gamepad. There is simply no way a gamepad can match the speed and precision of action you get with the keyboard and mouse. As a result, given 2 persons of identical skill level, 1 on a gamepad and 1 on keyboard & mouse, playing head-to-head, the gamepad player will lose a preponderance of the matches, due to the lowered precision of control.
Again, who has more fun is not an answerable question, because that's subjective and everyone is different. I am solely dealing with objective fact here, and the fact remains that keyboard & mouse is faster and more precise.
-Arlos

Re: Fallout 3
If the game is designed for the controller scheme, you don't need the precision that the keyboard/mouse offers. I would not use a controller on a PC and I would not use a keyboard/mouse on a console. The controller would make the PC game too difficult and the keyboard/mouse would make the console game too easy. Nuff said?

You're a noob. Seriously, you can't win this argument. You are way out of your league.
Bunny hopping is the act of jumping to gain an increase in movement speed otherwise unobtainable without doing so. It has absolutely nothing to do with trying to avoid being hit because if you're playing versus people who don't suck(you likely never have given what you've said so far) they will aim well enough to negate the slight change in your movement style over that of a noob like you anyways.
Play on servers that don't allow bunny hopping?
Did you just seriously try to argue with me about first person shooters and then bring that into it?! That's an enormous joke. You play with absolute fucking terrible players, clearly. You play on servers that ban specific guns too?
That is obviously something you can't do, don't understand, never will. You're the type of player the rest of us just shit all over while you cry about the skills we have that you very clearly don't. "WAAAAH HE'S BETTER THAN ME, KICK HIM! OR BAN HIM WAAAH MY PUSSY HURTS!"
I'd list off like 4-5 more videos from various other games to further prove my point but I think your admission of playing with complete shit players is enough.
Call of Duty 4, CS:S, Natural Selection, TFC, TFC2, Quake3, UT3, DoD, take your pick. None of the games I play are a secret. Which of them I play these days is irrelevant to the argument. I stopped playing competitively a while back, as I said. I'll still shit down your throat in any of them.
Crysis and FEAR, lol there's a very distinct reason they don't have either of those in CAL or the CPL.

Wow you think way too highly of yourself for no reason at all. I'm talking about day of defeat and you post me a counterstrike video. Wow you're a brilliant man. No wonder you dropped out of school
Oh, what's the reason Crysis and Fear aren't in CAL? Those games are great fun. Fear is probably my favorite multiplayer FPS of all time. Oh, and you're right, I do play on servers like that (that might be why I posted it in the first place!!!!), specifically in DoD because of realism mods that make a WW2 game more enjoyable. And if snipers are enabled, people inevitably use snipers on 10'x10' maps when there's three people. There are reasons I choose to play like this. It's a more balanced experience that forces people to use all the guns, instead of rifles 100% of the time. If you knew about DoD, you'd probably have similar gripes. Bunny hopping is for gays. You just don't do that stuff irl /shrug. Maybe you don't understand what realism is

But anyway, that video you posted reminded me of bunny hopping in Quake 1. You could get up to about 500mph going around the maps in that game. Pretty sure we're just talking about two different things, but it's ok, play your elitist card. You're so cool.
And no, I don't whine when people are better than me. I realise it and learn from them. Sorry, I'm not like you, I don't try to be an elitist about my video games. Because they're fucking VIDEO GAMES. You didn't even graduate high school. I'm sure you've put a lot more time into FPS and exploitation of electronic media than I have over my years of finishing school like a normal person and going to college and working real jobs instead of drifting and thinking I'm the coolest shit since sliced bread because I'm a self-certified badass at fake-life. ahahahaha
Anyways. What's your Steam ID? Let's play DoD:S. I don't play any of those other games, like I already said, even tho you felt inclined to tell me anyways for some reason

God you have ego issues

It might be possible using a hack but like I said earlier, the games are developed with a controller in mind so using a keyboard/mouse would make the game far too easy and less fun IMO.

I rarely play as you can see. I've been spending most of my time this year preparing for what's ahead of me and it's working out great.
Now run along. Go play with other shit players and never improve.
(that was a fun little sidetrack from the FACT that console FPS players are inferior to PC FPS players as a result of the peripheral)

I spend more time on the various forums of the gaming communities I helped found and develop than I do playing the actual games themselves now.
I basically just provide feedback on balancing of plugins, mods, etc. I do ban reviews and hack detection as well, silently, because hackers avoid playing when visible admins are online.
