You know this came up in a previous thread that I didn't get a chance to follow at the time and never bothered replying to later on. To suggest that Obama was strictly referring only to existing organizations is either disingenuous or ignorant.

Develop Whole of Government Initiatives to Promote Global Stability

Integrate Military and Civilian Efforts: An Obama-Biden administration will build up the capacity of each non-Pentagon agency to deploy personnel and area experts where they are needed, to help move soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines out of civilian roles.

Create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC): An Obama-Biden administration will set a goal of creating a national CAC of 25,000 personnel. This corps of civilian volunteers with special skill, sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) would be organized to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need at home and abroad.

paramilitary organization - a group of civilians organized in a military fashion (especially to operate in place of or to assist regular army troops)

Araby, tell me again when an Independent ever held the presidency? An "I" or "L" will NEVER win, so if you vote for an "I" you are only voting AGAINST a D or R

What I said was correct, you can lose the option all together if not enough vote for an I or L, and I conceded that to Mart.

This was in regards to the presidency, not other "openings".

Regardless of our opinions here, you will only ever have evil, you don't get a choice for good, be it I L D R, it's only a lesser of evil is all.

As far as I and L "voters" are concerned, they aren't really I or L, they just want a label, they're really undecided voters.

Ill only post an actual opinion here if someone asks. The rest of the time I just do it to piss people off. So here ya go :boots:

I actually know that woman. Shes a bit...weird? cooky?, to say the least. They say she just lost it when her husband passed, so I guess I shouldnt be saying that lol. And, personally, shes being more than a little bit melodramatic. 100 yards from her house? give me a break. No laws would allow anything even close to something like that happening, nor would any company in the right mind want to try that and take the chance of getting super sued.

I actually live in Raleigh County, where the stories based out of.

If you compare the mountaintop removal laws and regulations now, to what it was, say 10 or 15 years ago, you would be amazed in the changes to reclamation procedure requirements the government has made to it. Years ago, they didnt make you do jack or shit hardly. Now, it has to be better than when you started pretty much. I just really wish i could fast forward, say, 20 years and show what the land will look like. Now I do agree that you are changing something that cant be put back. You cant just put the top of the mountain back up and say k bye. But I guess its a matter of opinion on whether or not it should be able to be removed in the first place. I, personally, believe it is necessary, to pull out the amounts of coal that is needed to meet the demand of this country, and other countries as well.

Theyve even made use of the mountain removed. Theyve built schools, golf courses, all kinds of stuff on old strip jobs. Some of my favorite hunting lands are on old strips, and I swear it if someone didnt tell you it was a strip job at one time, you wouldnt know the difference. Just beautiful pieces of land.

I guess youve got to weigh both sides of it. Now if they were just mining the mountain out and leavin it as it sat, that would be different. But they are required to (and most spend much more than just required by the government) completely reclaime very inch of that land. Millions upon millions upon millions of dollars. And the way the laws are looking now (and getting more and more strict constantly), I would LOVE to go into the future and see what the land will look like someday. And if they DONT reclaim up to the government's standards, they get fined even more millions and millions. People act like they are just going to leave the land as it sits after they are done, but whatever, you cant change peoples minds.

So, in my opinion, MY opinion, ***with the proper laws and reclamation procedures followed***, yes, I agree with mountain top removal.

I cheer for the Cleveland Browns.

I like the Browns.

It is not because I simply don't like the opposing teams.

Araby is exercising her right as an American to vote for whichever candidate she has chosen.

She has chosen to vote for a candidate that will not win.

Berating her for making her choice isn't going to make her vote for your candidate.

10sun, I'm not berating anyone, I'm not bitching either mart or araby out here, I'm stating what I feel is fact, call me wrong or ignorant all you want, but what I said is true.

Araby and Mart I never said they are wrong, I never called them names, I said I was wrong for saying their vote was wasted, it wasn't, there is a need to keep I and L around, they need a specific level of vote to sustain themselves, etc.

I guess I'm not explaining myself enough here, perhaps I wasn't watching all the news on the radio and tv, I must have missed any mention on any stations, tv or radio where I heard the tally for I or L.

For whatever it's worth, I actually voted for several libertarians for "local" appointments. I was just attempting to explain that it really isn't worth, IMO, voting that way for the presidency. Sure they can be a "game changer" but at the end of the day, their vote is perceived as a vote against R or D, not for I or L and quite frankly, their vote is ignored.

fuck that, i am more than decided.

when an election comes around, i look at all the candidates, what they and their parties stand for, and i decide on the candidate that best aligns with my views. i don't give a shit if that means voting D, R, I, L, G, Z, Q, or X-- i fucking vote for who i want to win. every. damn. time.

i still can't fully comprehend that there are people out there that don't approach it this way.

THAT is how it SHOULD be done... but sadly I think that most people don't take the time to do the research.

I don't agree with Arlos, Tossica, Gyps, Vonk et al - but, desipte our debates and differences, they've at least done their research, respectively... so their vote has more merit in my eyes. The same with Mindia - while most here disagree with his positions it seems that he has done his homework as well.

I disagree with that last point... Mindia has never once made any single point that has even remotely strayed from his party lines. He's no maverick :D. Everyone else on that list is capable of independant thought. If he's done his homework, it's all from the same source.

uhh, seriously?

dude, not once did he ever offer any reasoning whatsoever behind either his pro-mccain stance or his anti-obama stance

unless you meant to type "lueyen" instead of "mindia"

Clakar I read your post of apology and that was cool, I was just giving you an example of how the independent vote does matter.
