Are you really trying to claim that Tool is the same musical style as Brittney Spears, Backstreet Boys, etc? Is that what you're trying to claim here? Or perhaps you mean 80s Synthpop like Erasure or Howard Jones?

Um, OK, there, Sparky. Much less ball park, time zone, continent, whatever, you're not even in the same stellar region there.

What are you going to do for your next trick, claim that the Butthole Surfers are "Ambient"? Or perhaps that the Dead Kennedys were "bluegrass"?

Dislike them all you want, I would never claim that the band is for everyone, but goddamn, at least know what band you're talking about...

hahaha tool fanbois make me laugh so much

"pop" music is "popular music" in case you forgot

i was being sarcastic. and you took the bait

tool doesn't have a unique or original atmosphere, either. hit me up on MSN and i'll send you stuff that has a dark, progressive atmosphere like tool but actually sounds good. gawd i seriously hate tool. probably with the same passion tikker hates nirvana

Tool is progressive metal and is not for everyones taste

dream theater and rush fit in that subcategory too

70s was the decade for heavy metal. heck the 70s was the decade for all rock genres its been all downhill since

in the 80s it was all kiss wanabe hair metal bands cranking out power ballads. only two artists stand out from this decade.. iron maiden and metalica (before cliff died)

90s they just added some niel young feedback and called it alternative.... i call bullshit.. soundgarden alice in chains and even stone temple pilots are metal.

metal recently has taken a turn to beauty and the beast throatcore annoyance and i really dont like the genre in its current state

Check some of the bands I listed, it's more riff oriented and has sabbath feel going.

My iPod has a collection of:

Soil
Dope
Disturbed
Rob Zombie

On a side note I am listening to ZZ Top's "Rough Boy" right now. Damn good oldie from the 80's.

ZZ Top is one of those bands where any song of theirs that comes on I love, but I have a tough time listening to back to back songs of theirs, heh

i dislike Disturbed for three reasons

1. though it is certainly original, i find the singer's staccato flavor-fills extremely irritating (you know what i'm talking about - oooWAH-AH-AH-AH!!!)

2. the production just sounds too clean. i understand they're showing off their technical accuracy or whatever, but it's so precise that it sounds robotic. there's absolutely NO random instrument sounds between parts (fingers on the strings, pickup noise, etc), and that ain't natural. i'm not saying there should be constant and/or overbearing noise, but it's creepy to have absolutely none. it's like every millisecond they're not playing is digital silence. bugs me.

3. they covered Land of Confusion. poorly. you can ask my old bandmates, i had the idea to redo that song with a modern rock feel a good three years before Disturbed did it, but the band broke up before i could make it happen. not only do i completely disagree with the way Disturbed arranged it, but now if i try to do it it'll be seen as covering Disturbed :-x

You know what's scary Brin? They sound that technical live. They're just that clean.

Draiman just needs to shut his fucking yapper inbetween songs. I HATE preachy performers.

Yeah, Pearl Jam was definitely part of the whole Grunge movement when they first came out. Indeed, they were one of the Big 3 from Seattle at the very start of it, along with Soundgarden and AIC. They most certainly are not in any way, shape, or form "metal". Not even Soundgarden or AIC qualify as metal to me, IMHO, but they certainly get much closer than Pearl Jam ever has.

I also concur with their Pearl Jam's album being VASTLY superior to anything else they've ever done. I have to wonder if a lot of the stuff that went onto Pearl Jam's first album was actually stuff that had been written for Mother Love Bone originally, and when the members met Vedder during the Temple of the Dog sessions after the MLB singer died from a heroin overdose, they just added Vedder in, only tweaked the songs a bit, and let him sing the already created parts.

That may be a stretch, but it would certainly explain the observed situation. I mean, Mother Love Bone was quite good, and all of Pearl Jam from later on is really BAD....
