Does AT&T suck?

Post by Diekan »

Little background. I currently use T-Mobile. Always liked it, but truth be known they SUCK at keeping up with the "Jones" in terms of data networking. In other words while the rest of the cell phone world either has or is close to having a G3 network, T-Mobile is still working with EDGE.

Anyway, I get sick of screwing around with slower than dirt data service and decide to get an iPhone with the G3 network (or 3G, whatever). I call AT&T and get hung up on TWICE. I call the local service office and get nothing but answering machines. I go there, physically, and the employees act as if they were doing ME a favor by even being there.

I realize as a companies grow the of quality of their CS declines... but wow... just wow.

Any of you use AT&T? Is it as bad as my experiences?

Fuck 'em. They don't seem like they even want to sell their products so I'll just have to stick with slower-than-shit T-Mobile.

i used a local company called CellularOne until they got swallowed up by Alltel, then instead of staying with Alltel (which i loathe) i jumped over to Sprint because they had a 15% discount for state employees. no complaints.

no experience with AT&T though.

I just switched to T-Mobile for the Google phone (G1). They have a pretty substantial 3G network in place. I get 3G in most of the metro here in Minneapolis. I'd assume it's the same down south as long as you live in a large metro.

I really like AT&T. I've had alltel (worst) and sprint (ok). AT&T is far better.

Actually, they used to be cingular. Which was great. I notice no difference since the takeover.

When ATT acquired Cingular the quality of service and customer service plummeted. Fuck ATT. They all pretty much suck but really, Verizon was good enough for me to stay with for years but there is a dead zone at my new job that makes my Verizon phone worthless. T-Mobile 3g network is solid here so I switched. T-Mobile is also about $30 less a month than my Verizon account.

I pay 50 bucks a month for basically the minimum package. 400 minutes. + messaging. I do like the rollover minutes. I have 1,934 saved up. If I ever go over 400 I don't need to worry about getting crazy charges like I did at sprint.

ATT CS is the shit for sure but the tech and service IMO is great. As for what you want to do:

Verizon - proprietary service, they will die a slow death, don't go there
T-Mobile - lag behind in tech and coverage, they suck in almost any "non-city" "non-close to highway" locations
Alltel - they will be bought by Verizon so they'll suck in the end
Sprint - shit are they even a real player?

I manage over 100 lines of service through ATT and have been with att since 2000, so att->cingular->att mobility, another 260 lines through Verizon Wireless

During this time the only issues I really had is when cingular bought att a second time, they re-org'd and I lost my local sales guy who would always hook me up with tech and testing, etc.

It really comes down to this, what do you want (re: tech), where do you want it (coverage)? Having done several tries with all but spring, ATT has beat them every time.

For me though, it broke down this way:
domestic only services low tech= Verizon (they DO have the best domestic coverage PERIOD)
Global coverage and new tech= ATT (they have the largest global coverage of any carrier to my knowledge right now)

EDIT
BTW, I've got a BlackJack 2 device, i-net, e-mail, im, etc all work great from the device. The other devices I support are some of the HTC products (older ones) and about any windows mobile device. One last bit, regardless of who says what, the device itself is a MAJOR contributer to the success or failure of your experience.

I hear ya man. T-Mobile's coverage also sucks. Their service area map shows one thing... reality is quite another.

My wife and I have used T-Mobile for 6-7 years and have been generally happy with it, though we have had several experiences where cell coverage was down (Hurricanes tend to do that) or been out in the middle of nowhere, travelling in particular, and had no coverage but had friends whose At&T coverage was strong

also, we love the Iphone and are interested to get them andthe plans include High Speed Wireless service, so we will use the phones for our high speed

In places that don't have T-Mobile coverage, I've been able to hop on the ATT network with no problem.

I switched to ATT a couple months ago, and it kicks the shit out of US Cellular who I had last. Kicks the shit out of Cell One and Sprint too from what Ive seen so far. I bought a Moto Q Global phone with it, and love it too. Ive downloaded all kinds of music and games and shit so far just messing around, and i use the hell out of it for work with emailing and shit like that.

That being said, Blackberries suck fat cock. They are for kids like my sisters who "loooooooove their blackberries teeheeheehehe!!@!". It is teh bandwagon phone~
