I don't know about instrumental bands in general but one of my all time favorite instrumental tracks is Frankenstein by Edgar Winter.

surely if we can count erykah badu as soul we can count a band who uses a metric fuckton of instruments as instrumental. vocals for them are just a sidenote and a highlight - the main focus for them is the instrumentation, clearly, and I think anyone who enjoys a good instrumental can appreciate the arcade fire.
besides, they don't fit anywhere else in these threads. stop bursting my bubble!

Dutch actually & they had two hits kinda... Hocus Pocus & Sylvia.
Though Hocus Pocus kinda has lyrics to it if you count yodeling & gibberish.
Re: Great Instrumental Rock Bands
I love Badu, I just never considered her soul - never really thought about it I guess. she really is hard to define I guess

it's almost 16 minutes long so make sure you set aside some time
also damn it is taking a long time to upload, don't try accessing it before 10pm PST

Re: Great Instrumental Rock Bands
thanks. seems like a lot of instrumental groups have a tendency to model their songs like that. i'm not sure if i'm a fan of how often songs do that in this genre

if it matters, the link above is to a FLAC file (Free Lossless Audio Coding) that is of slightly higher quality than mp3
it came on the retrospective DVD containing all of their work throughout the band's history that i bought at the show for $8

Re: Great Instrumental Rock Bands
not slightly higher .... a lot higher. it's like compressing a .wav by 50% without losing any of the audio stream. i have to keep a seperate media player around for them tho because itunes won't play em. and yes, i do like itunes.
a lot
and it's free lossless audio codec

You guys might like this. It's a little heavy but they're different than what I'm used to. It's like Techno-industrial metal or some shit, no idea what to call it. I like it though, lots of energy.

I especially like Board Up the House, and Endless Teeth. (Endless Teeth I have if anyone likes Board Up the House and wants to hear it.)

Re: Great Instrumental Rock Bands
yeah that's not bad at all. i don't like the production on some tracks but i think that's probably because they're like 128kbps stream on myspace and it all sounds pretty shitty hah
and PS i believe the correct tags for a band like that would be something like ambient, dark-electro, industrial, screamo
i liked "Arms" the most

Re: Great Instrumental Rock Bands
and after we tried for a year straight to get enigmas and we were doing key runs and finally opened up the ubers...... the ladder reset. it took like three years before it reset last time. but this time it was about seven hours short of a year. fuckin bullshit. we were in denial about it til the other week and now we're only about lvl 50. starting over for no reason is lame. and not playing on the ladder is a waste of time, so....
he's a smiter paladin and i'm coldlight sorc. we finally figured it out this ladder and we're absolutely dominating this time thru. almost finished nightmare now (we play scorched earth. no baal runs for us sorry) and we've died a grand total of like 5 or 10 times. pretty smooth tbqh. i mulch the grass and he stuns the bosses while i static field them to 1/4 life everytime like clockwork. we're unstoppable. can't wait for ubers
