Christmas gift for the kayak fisherman

My father moved down to Florida over last summer. He started fishing the ocean on his kayak. He never keeps anything as he only likes to do catch and release.

He has told me when he catches a fish he finds it very difficult to take pictures of his catch. Many of his photos are 1/2's of fish etc. Does anyone have any idea for a product that would allow him to take self pictures while out in a kayak? I'm thinking like a stand or something. It's a long shot. But it'd be far better a gift than anything else from the usual.

I have seen that on TV before. i forget what show but i do believe it makes the kayak kinda unstable.

Some sort of sportsman camera that will clip to his hat maybe.

A waterproof remote triggered camera to attach to the bow of his kayak. Should set it up with a timer as well.

Either that or a son who will go kayak fishing with him to take pictures.

I doubt anything is mass produced that you could buy or order, but it would be easy enough to make a stand to mount a camera with a delay on it to take a self photo of dad and fish. Really easy if its one of them big kayaks with the hole for a mast/sail system.

Everyone knows you can't have your kayak and heat it too....

Just need to find a waterproof digital camera with a remote.

Canon PowerShot SD430 has a remote that comes w/ it. Plenty of after market remote triggers are out there for different cameras. Might have difficulty finding a camera w/ a waterproof casing that can accommodate the trigger though.

We saw a couple using one on a snorkeling trip we went on. It looked really awesome.

Don't get me wrong I love to fish, but he fly fishes which makes it crazy difficult.

He fished the north shore of lake superior and all its tributaries for the last 40 years. He knows every stream, outlet, what have you. As well as what fish and where. The guy is a legend up there.

He moved down here with my mother over this summer. In the move he was able to retire. Now he just spends all day on the ocean fishing.

My old man lived on those rivers in the early/mid 80's. Literally. He'd be gone weeks at a time, walking the rivers. steelhead fishing and living out in the woods.

and fly fishing from a kayak is ultra impressive.

I've done some fly fishing before. It's not easy, but since you're mainly whipping your wrist back and forth, I can see it being done in a kayak, especially in a lake or ocean, where you're not in a current or something.

That said, I haven't seen fly fishing done in the ocean.

Im sure youll figure something out. If I was desperate to take pictures, Id buy a Stealth Camera and tape it to the other end of the kayak or something. Stealth camers are a thing hunters used that are timed or motion activated. I have a few out in the woods around the places I hunt. I put some apple come 'ere deer liquid on the bottom of the tree and one night a bear laid in front of it for an hour. anyway, maybe something like that would work

I was thinking about that, but I don't think they make fully waterproof cases for those Stealth Cameras that can survive a submersion and if I am not mistaken the father wants to be able to document himself holding the fish after he has caught it.
