Holy fucking shit that looks ridiculously good. I'm going to do this when it stops snowing/raining.

P.S. Eating greenbeans with chopped bacon in it now, mmmmm

tonight's dish:

hormel bacon, scrambled eggs (cooked well in bacon fat), boiled grits flavored with Texas Pete, butter, salt, pepper, parmesan and cheddar cheese, and cinnamon raisin toast, buttered, served with a side of strawberry preserves.

That's cool. Reason I asked is because Applebee's has a great Tequila-Lime Chicken entree. :boots:

for some reason, i'm not really a fan of applebees. i haven't been there in a while, probably a year or ago when we went there for lunch with some new co-workers.

i am, however, a fan of my crock pot, and i think that reynold's crock pot liners are one of the best inventions EVER because now a lazy-ass like me who doesn't want to clean the crock pot after it's been cooking all day can make delicious, low-in-fat chicken dinners with little to no effort :D

here's why i don't like applebee's:

go into the back of applebee's, shari's, chili's, the outback, TGIF, red robin, whatever, and you'll see the same ingredients from the same distributors. ever see those big SYSCO trucks ridin around? they're goin between franchise restaurants like that. about 15% of the food you eat at a place like that is made fresh from scratch. it's already cooked long ago, moved to a hot surface to bring it up to temp and then plated and served to you. and you pay like what, $5 less per plate? not worth it. it's equivelant to fast food, quality-wise. if you're lucky they'll actually bake your potatoes in an oven for an hour. most of the time tho, the cooks at places like that aren't much better than microwave technicians. they don't even make soup from scratch. it comes in a 1 quart container that you add 1 quart of water to and boil it back to life. sad

that's all true, but what i don't like about crapplebee's is that they swoop in and open up a store and put all this old-timey shit on the wall to make it look like they've been there forever

there's a bar here that opened in 07 that tried the same bullshit. their big neon sign even says "established 1981"

fuuuuuuuuck that shit

now I'm hungry. breakfast time!

Applebee's is okay, I will go there for a cheeseburger or the honey mustard. Those two things from there taste pretty good to me. I like their pickles, too.

fuck chain restaurants.

I can make 99% of that stuff better myself... spend less time doing it, and save a shitload of money.

I prefer to find the best local mom & pop places. I'm a regular at our local cajun eatery =).

Do you guys who like chain restaurants like them because that's all there is where you are? I'm not being a dick, I'm just curious. I ask because I have met people before that think Pappa Johns is the best pizza on earth so they obviously have never had real pizza before.

Seems like if the only thing near you are chain restaurants your area is a totally untapped market to open a good place to eat. Low hanging fruit for a young entrepreneur. :dunno:

I support local business as much as possible. especially now. I was walking downtown the other day and saying out loud to my friend, "Look at all these places. Gotta keep 'em going!"

blech - that thing is pretty, but it looks disgusting to eat. it might be good with just a lean ground pork, but bacon on top of sausage on top of bacon together is grease overload for me, and I love heart-attack inducing food.
