Matthew (11) and Ryan (8) here, I'm a Jason who married a Terri, I rarely see other "Jason's" though.

We employ nearly 7000 folks and only 5 Jason's (myself included) out of that lot.

I have no fewer than 20 friends named Jason.

Most of the names I see here are meant for those kids that get beat up on the playground at school.

It seems to be regional because someone else said that too, they know several Jason's (maybe it was you :) ).

For Ryan, out of a larger sampling of over 15000 names that are employeed through my parent company (my company included), only 7 Ryans exist.
Hell even Matthew only gets 39 out of 15k, I actually expect many more than that

Jason under the same test, 15k names, 34 Jason's show up, implying nearly the same popularity of Matthew. Matthew being a rather common name IMO.

You knowing 20 seems crazy weird :) hehe.

I was frequently the only Kevin in most of my classes. On the other hand, it's common enough that everyone's heard it and knows how to spell it, pretty much, so it doesn't get viewed as unusual.

My father's name is a bit more rare: Dean. Though, he has said on occasion that it was a very useful name to have when he was at a big college like UCLA, because he would get way more cooperation than most students when he would call up some functionary and tell them, with complete honesty, "This is Dean <last name>", and they would, of course, assume Dean was his title, not his name... heh.

When I was a kid Joshua was common as fuck. And now, it's kind of rare to come across one. That doesn't even make sense.

It's cool to choose uncommon names, but some of the ones I've seen posted here I would never pick. lol To me, some of them are as bad as some Good ol boy southern names like Scooter, or Zeke.

I never really got the whole "My kid needs to have an uncommon name" thing, but to each their own. Just remember its the name they are stuck with until their 18 and decide they want to change it :). Also remember that children are heartless and cruel. Names are one of the first things that are used to pick on someone.

To me the whole thing with requiring the name to be uncommon is what leads to kids with names like Apple, Heaven, Jermajesty and Ocean.

I'm a-okay with uncommon names just because of how it was having so many Ashley's (I'm sure your wife can relate :p) - I'm not okay with those names bordering on child abuse for the sake of being unique, though ><

I once knew a chick who named her kids "Elric" and "Elven". I feel so bad for those kids.

Mindia, you should name the kid after what you were looking at when he/she/it was conceived. You know name it headboard, windshield, steering wheel, or maybe buttocks.

Middle names are for tribute to loved family members. Such as your mother, your grandmother, or perhaps it will be a boy and you may name it after your father or grandfather. Maybe your uncle Willy loves you the mostest?

My kids are:

Zachary Michael
-The people who almost adopted him wanted him to be named Zachary. When I kept him, I kept his name the same because that is how it should be. Middle named after Michael Jackson before he started raping babies.

Madison Lynn
-Named Madison for the mermaid on Splash. Middle is for my sister who was born on the same date. This was preplanned and the birthday was a total suprise.

Andrew Dean
-Dean is his father's middle name. His first name is after his father's big brother who died in the Mississippi river.
