wanna laptop

this one: Sony VAIO VGN-FW378J/B

hestitation with finger on trigger. why?

pros:

school
mobile recording
mobile photo editing
mobile writing (atmosphere++)
blu-ray w00t!
nice to have for road trips (directions, movies, etc)
student discount


cons:

big $$$
i have a good desktop PC already
can't use it at work, won't need it at home


questions:
  • anything about this computer that sucks? i have never bought/owned a laptop before but all the features look tits to me
  • any other arguments for/against buying a laptop

i love laptops and will never go back to a desktop again

the flexibility to be mobile is just so nice

Cons:
That processor makes your battery life = ass.
That weight is really heavy for most laptops these days.

Yeah, 7lbs is pretty heavy these days. Mind you, I lugged around a 13lbs monstrosity for a semester and I can tell you that stairs really start to suck after awhile.

ehhhhh don't give a shit about the weight

battery life might be a concern though, wonder if i should invest in a high capacity battery*




*which is bullshit, they should ALL come with the BEST batteries possible

Be sure to turn off bluetooth when you get it... that will help boost battery life some.

As far as weight goes, I went from 10 pounds down to 4 and the lower weight did make a considerable difference considering you'll probably be carrying around another 5 pounds of gear on top of everything else you'd normally have (bookbag, textbooks, etc).

Make sure to get a nice bag for whatever you get and don't toss other shit into the laptop's compartment.

My work supplied me with an HP dv9000. Love it! Full keyboard + 2 hard drives & 4gb ram with core 2 duo

Still like the desktop better for gaming though.

bought a nice bluetooth mouse for it too (i will need all 3 USB ports for my recording peripherals)

also the screen is absolutely fucking gorgeous
