What motivates you to work out?

Postby KaiineTN » Thu Feb 19, 2009 1:42 pm

Is it a desire to improve your looks? Athletic performance? Do you just want to stay in good health and have energy? Better/more sex? Does it make you feel better than most of fat America? Do you just want to prove to yourself you can get in better shape?

Just curious what gets you guys to the gym, or on the exercise bike, or out jogging, or whatever it is you do.

Because it feels awesome...

If you're working out for superficial reasons, you're going to fail at some point, like anything else done for a bad reason.

I disagree. I don't think working out to look good or improve sex or whatever are bad reasons, as superficial as they may be. In fact, I don't really think there's such a thing as a "bad reason" to work out. Working out is overall positive no matter what the reason. I do agree that it feels great and in my case, I wanted to work out to look better and in the end the biggest benefit to me was feeling better. Not just physically, but mentally as well.

Balance! I can breathe deeper and stay focused easier and I am less likely to think or yell. I hate doing those things too often, such a waste of energy.

It's hard getting to the gym after working 14 hours, plus the commute to/from work.

I go for health reasons and because I just tend to feel better after having gone. I find I have more energy

I do it mainly because I want to be playing basketball at a high level well into my 40s (32 atm). I'm the "big guy" at 6'3" so the body takes a pounding in pick up and (non) organized basketball games since I'm always on the low blocks and getting hacked on rebounds etc.

OVERWHELMING GUILT ISSUES motivate me to work out, lol. in other words, i feel much better about myself after having worked out than i do if i skip it. when i skip, i spend the rest of the day/evening feeling bad.

also my never-ending quest for a bikini. probably not gonna happen. :P
