NEW YORK (CNN) -- The founder of an Islamic television station in upstate New York aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes has confessed to beheading his wife, authorities said.

I tend to believe that religions themselves are all harmless. It's the people's interpretation of them that's dangerous. Christianity and Catholicism are no better. Plenty of Muslim's out there who live peacefully and to the utmost moral standard.
Also, the fact that he falls into a Muslim stereotype doesn't make his message of countering Muslim stereotypes any less right.

It's a lot like people making up rules as they go along...except in life. It kinda sucks for some of us that look at things almost always in just plain black or white.
The grey area is too much and I think religions have too many of those. the people also...and that again, in turn, just makes it difficult for everyone else just trying to live their life with what they believe. They make it hard because they want to make the rules up...as they go...
bunch of kids acting the fool is what it all boils down to. And this guy, I heard, started the station in order to show how it isn't all violent with their people...

yes but the point is that it makes it much harder for anyone to listen to his message
if i tell you not to smoke crack, that's a good message. if i then get caught smoking crack, my message is still completely valid but no one will care anymore.

i agree with jay. it doesn't change the importance of the cause that guy was supporting. i'm sure when he was an activist or whatever he really meant everything. but, humans are crazy, and this guy obviously snapped. it makes us lose our faith in him as a person and laugh at everything he said in his particular situation, but overall, a situation like this wouldn't make me stop caring about what he was talking about in the past. think of it as liking a band before they sellout, or whatever. this is also sort of like michael phelps' situation. wow, eight gold medals, sponsorships, everything. but oh no, there's a picture of him smokin reefer and so that makes everything he did completely worthless? i don't agree with that at all
the guy's a dumbass and it's hilarious that he turned out to be a hypocrite. i don't think jay's arguing that. but just because this happens, everyone starts condemning all the muslims again. and that's retarded
i like ashton kutcher's take on the whole fiasco. i'm paraphrasing here, but essentially he said "big deal, so he hit a bong? you should worry more about what YOUR kids are doing"

Didn't realize there was a point to be had. Just saw it as fun irony followed up with another example of a Muslim guy doing something fucked up and you saying "Awesome religion, really". I guess it falls into the "I'm just saying" category.
And honestly, as much as I try not to be racist and hate people based on their race, it's particularly difficult for me with middle eastern people. While I understand that there's some good and some bad just like with any other group of people, still, I have yet to have a positive encounter with 1 middle eastern person unless it was them quietly vending me a bag of chips and a magazine. I came close once to having an Arab friend. In high school he was a smart kid in class and we both liked video games. As soon as I said "blah blah blah Israel" he fucking snapped. "IT'S FUCKING PALESTINE YOU DUMB FUCK!" I mean seriously, when middle eastern people come around I have to fight the urge to wrong them based on their race. Kinda like in poker when the the small to mid stack goes all in on a gutshot straight at the card house and you know what you have to do but the last 5 times the gutshot landed.
