Hope it never misses LOL. Of course there are plenty of other things that feed on mosquito's so I wouldn't agree with genocide, however removing them from cities, towns, etc would be GREAT!!.

ya i have no idea why that article said they have no natural predators and nothing would miss them or whatever.... all sorts of things eat mosquitoes and larvae. this would be a good idea for cities and whatnot. and maybe take a mobile one when you go camping
Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Like the scientist said, they have no predators that DEPEND on them for survival. Mosquitoes have no real niche in any ecosystem. They are a pest to more than just humans. Probably the worst parasite to have existed...
Things do eat mosquitoes, but they hardly depend on them in the least. I wouldn't care even if something did. Kill them all.

While to an extent I do agree with the statement, it does go a bit deeper then that. While we may not directly depend on anything that would depend on the mosquitoes, that does not mean that we do not depend on somthing the depends on something that depends on something that depends on mosquitoes. If that is the case, then eliminating the mosquitoes could have an indirect effect on us in general.

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Yeah, look at honey bees, if you've not seen the "Bee" movie, while it was corny and what not, one message I did get out of it and confirmed it's truth, if not for honey bees, you could pretty much kiss every fruit, flower, or any pollinating "thing" we ultimately consume for food or cosmetic.
I forget the number now and while I'm hot on this hijack, honey bees do like 99.9% of global pollination (and that number is CORRECT :p)

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Bees have a purpose.
Mosquitoes do not. They spread disease. That is it.
Things do eat them like any other insect, but as was plainly said, nothing would "miss" their extinction.

Yeah they fucking suck. And we dont even have them bad here compared to what some of you in the further South have to deal with. Every one could drop dead and Im sure it wouldnt be just humans who would be happy. And I just cant believe it would even shake any food chain up anywhere alone the way

Actually spreading disease is a very important part of the cycle. If a major sort of disease spreading was removed, many species may start to become to abundant. In terms of the food chain, their eggs are eaten by many species of fish as well as mosquitos in general are eaten by many species of birds to compliment their diet. It really is impossible to know what would happen if we decreased their population drastically.

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
My guess is that I would be much happier and fuck the consequences lol

haha yeah, we/they are.
I've said for years the world has never known a more powerful parasite than humans

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Except, we're on the very top of the food chain for a reason.
We're not a parasite. That's more hippie bullshit.

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
The human race is at the top of the food chain because it in general has no regard to the world it lives in. Rather then adapting to live in the world, we have changed to world to suit us. So we are in a sense just a very successful parasite.

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
That doesn't even make any sense.

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Harri, you're the one not making sense now. Read my link and then tell me how we are NOT a parasite?
Being the top of the food chain has zero value in the context of being a parasite or not. Top dog doesn't preclude you from other roles you play on the planet.

What species do we obtain nutriment from that we also live on or in?

Re: Fuck yes! Mosquito genocide
Gaia is our host.
I know your tactic and you are more than welcome to your opinion however it will be what I perceive as a complete shutdown of reality. What I mean by that is
Me: Gaia
<You>: Gaia isn't alive it is a rock
Me: but without that rock nothing can survive
<You>: but a rock is a rock is a rock
I find that tactic ridiculously close minded and a typical response from folks that just don't want to pony up to their responsibilities and say "Yeah, we pretty much take from our planet and offer nothing in return". That quoted sentence pretty much defines the word parasite. One organism (us) living off the resources of another organism (our planet).
You can cry foul all you want, you can play stupid all you want, you can hide from your impact and responsibilities to our host, etc. The fact of the matter is our Plant IS an organism by definition (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/organism).
Here is my question to you Nate, prove earth is NOT an organism? For if you can not, STFU and pony up your to your parasitical responsibility.
