Vegetarians in the military

Postby Harrison » Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:48 pm

What the fuck?!

How can someone join the military while trying to hold onto some ridiculous moral revulsion to eating meat? You are TRAINED TO KILL PEOPLE, and yet you see something wrong with eating meat? Get the fuck out of the military if you are that fucked in the head. I am sick of seeing vegetarian MREs and having to trade off that disgusting bullshit because of some morons.

Killing people = ok
but
Killing animals for food = wrong

Ummmm :wtf:

I hate hippies. I hate people catering to them where it is unnecessary even more.

No, because with exception of the very few religious reasons to be a vegetarian, you don't belong in the military if you won't eat meat for a "moral" reason and see nothing wrong with killing human beings on the same note.

That is pretty much the dumbest shit I've encountered recently along with that other thread's ludicrous notion that we're a parasite to an inanimate object.

I hope the majority of the people enlisted in the military don't join up for the sole purpose of killing other human beings.

Of course not, but it's the military, this is to be expected of you if the need arises.

Regardless if you join to be a cook, engineer, apache drivetrain mechanic, nurse, officer, infantry...you go to Basic Combat Training. You are trained to kill.

The idea that you see nothing wrong with killing a human being and yet see a problem with eating meat, to me, is ridiculous.

Do you know that all the vegetarians you run into are vegetarians strictly for moral reasons?

It's not that big of a deal. Once you deploy, if the only thing you have to complain about is not getting your favorite MRE flavor, consider yourself lucky.

The role of the military is to protect the United States and its interest, using deadly force in the defense of the country as a last resort. Making a choice to not eat Miss Piggy (for whatever reason), is a whole different deal. If it can be accommodated without sacrificing our wartime capabilities, so be it. Really, if you look at the big picture, who gives a shit.

You can get pissed and judge vegetarians or whatever if you want, but it makes no difference. Screaming at a wall.

i agree with foutty

why do you bother giving a shit? it's not like your overdramatic indignation will cause these veg-heads to suddenly see the light and wolf down a burger, so why waste the energy?

I know vegetarians who are that way because they feel it's much healthier than eating meat, especially given all the hormones and crap that livestock is shot up with nowadays. Of course, they also shop at places like Whole Foods, so they can get their veggies and fruits without bad pesticides and such, which obviously you can't do with MREs, but moral reasons are far from the only ones for being vegetarian.

I know they're not the only reasons. I just think it's ridiculous given the circumstances.

I don't think it's that unusual considering bloody meat on a plate might disgust a person who just got finished killing someone.

You're hardcore though Harrison. Are you almost finished with boot camp?

You would be extremely surprised at the number of people who join the military that have no clue that some day they may actually need to use their weapon. I honestly couldn't tell you what was going through their minds, however prom personal experience the majority of people who I went through training with had no clue they would be called on to go to war. Way to many of them had been brainwashed by their recruiter into thinking they would be the one that didn't have to fight and that it was a perfectly safe job with great benefits and a steady pay check.

One of the women I went through BCT with was a 42 year old mother of 4 who claimed she would never have to actually do anything because she was a mother, she just wanted the extra pay check and figured the military was as good a place as any to get it. She was in tears the day she was actually forced to fire her weapon on a range.

Just because people join the military does not mean they see it the same way you do. You may fully understand that you will be called on to use your training and may very well have to use your weapon and take the life of another, but many just don't know or refuse to see it.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

I dont like the taste of many meats. Given the choice of a burger or a veggie plate, I'd take the veggies.

While Gid is right, many who join dont think they will ever be called into action. Those that realize it, and are mature about it, know they are going to protect, not to just mow down a village and then chillax near the truck. There will be times they have to shoot and kill, but a LARGE percentage of that will be while under fire, in a defense situation.

why don't religious reasons matter? they're the dumbest reasons of all of em. i don't see what killing a person and what someone nourishes themselves with have to do with eachother. at all. the army isn't a first person shooter you stupid fuck. you'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you just stop caring about stuff you can't do anything about

Because a faith-based belief that eating of meat is against your religion's tenets is different than some crybaby hippie bullshit belief that killing animals for food is wrong but killing people is alright.

That's why it is different, "you stupid fuck".

Interesting tidbit:

I noticed this in a lot of weak-minded individuals. Their need to belong falsely projects on everyone else, often.
