Transcendental Meditation

Postby Ginzburgh » Thu Mar 19, 2009 10:08 am

Anyone into Transcendental Meditation at all? Howard Stern talks about it all the time and other people who I have talked to said it's really great. I just signed up for an introductary course. It's free (for now) so it can't hurt to check out.

I don't know anything about it but in a quick look-up, I'm curious if you can select your own mantra or if you are provided one for you to use.

From the little I read, it appears to be a method of stress reduction, that said, I'd like to know the outcome of you course :).

Everything comes down to what exactly you want to get out of it. If you are expecting it to fix all the problems in the world, you will be disappointed, if you are looking for a way to relax and reduce stress, then it may be the right thing for you.

Yeah that's all I want. I have a fairly high stress job and while I'm not ripping my hair out or anything TM can't hurt.

Plus I just like trying new things.

Move to Connecticut and join a marketing/advertising firm. I blink and the day is over. There aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Work in a datacenter with 10,000 server where each customer is amazingly losing 100,000 an hour that their server is off line. Oh did I mention, that in the customers mind, it is ALWAYS our fault. Bordom is not an issue we deal with, stress on the other hand is :).

I feel your pain but on a smaller scale. Amazing or not 100k an hour loss could very well be the truth, at least some of the time. I find it amazing the charges auto companies rack up if you aren't able to deliver a product on time regardless of what caused the delay (e.g. ERP is down, Act of God, etc). Let alone what shipping companies charge for making the truck wait at the dock. 100k an hour loss isn't all that hard to reach :p. I'm not saying I think the fees, and downgrades, etc are wrong, just expensive is all.

Gid you should take a picture of you now, and assuming you're still there in 5 years, take another, then in another 5 do it again. I've gotten more grey hair in the past 2 years from all the reductions, job liquidations, do more with less, etc.

We actually do have customers who really would be losing 100,000+ an hour, granted each of them have redundancy in place so it doesn't happen.

My hair is just starting to go grey, Darc has been kind enough to point it out for me :)

I think someone here posted a pretty cool link of some dude that recorded his "head" over the course of several years, and put a vid up on youtube. Not the same as what I suggested by any means but I'm confident the last 2 years have increased my grey factor :p.

So the next question, go Grecian formula number 9, or keep it all natural (lol)?

Same deal here. If a beltline goes down, the whole mine is down and they are losing tens of thousand upon tens of thousands of dollars in production while its down. If you want to hear a pissed off maint. supervisor, just have the belt go down. Godamn only knows how many calls Ive got at 2am getting me out of bed to get them a coupling or something on the way.

and those trucking companies are a motherfucker too. Gotta love paying 150 an hour on a heavy haul and the mine fucks around for 4 hours trying to unload it
