some whackjob private college is suing the state education board because it denied their application to award M.S. degrees in creationism

then they get all butt-hurt because they think they're being discriminated against because of their faith. no, morons, you're being discriminated against because you're trying to pass off your faith as science

later in the article one of the aforementioned nuts implies that a school that teaches only evolutionism is somehow not balanced, which cracks me up because it makes evolution sound like an opinion

this is the image that pops into my head whenever i hear someone arguing that evolution is an opinion:

How exactly do you take classes in creationism anyway? Do you get an A in the class if you turn in a final that just says "Goddidit"?

Then there's the issue that creationism is a religious belief. Now, it's certainly someone's right to whatever beliefs they want, but that doesn't make them science. Scientific theories have PREDICTIVE use. How can "Goddidit" be used to predict anything as far as new developments are concerned? Evolution gives predictive results, just look at antibiotic-resistant disease bacteria, etc.

This is a ridicules request, however living in Texas, it really doesn't surprise me. I would have no problem with a creationism curriculum within a religious studies program, however it has no place in a science curriculum.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference between a creationism degree and theology degree?

They were trying to give the Creationism degree a master of SCIENCE degree. Theology is in the Bachelors of the ARTS area. Also, theology is the whole of the religion, not one tiny aspect of it, like creationism "science".

or to answer another way, there shouldn't be any difference at all, since creationism is theological in nature

If it's a doctorate in Wiccan/pagan theology, how is that any different than a PhD in christian or jewish theology? Or Hindu, Muslim, Zoroastrian, etc. etc. etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with degrees in religious studies of any kind. Many schools offer many different degree programs in religious studies for many different religions.

This issue actually goes far beyond this one school and their attempt to give creation as a science a foothold in our education system. The bill being introduced into the Texas house of representatives would allow any school that does not received government money to offer any degree in anything. If this degree is passed, Texas will become yet another diploma mill for the country where you can get just decide what degree you want and have it delivered to you.

I was curious what you would need to teach for this degree program so I checked out their website and course requirements www.icr.edu. They do a fairly good job of trying to sound as scientific as possible, but I find it very amusing that almost every course they offer is simply there to compare biblical view to the scientific view.
