"Opposite marriage" still slays me.

Re: Perez Hilton
Perez has always been an attention whore. Him and that Chris Crocker should get together and slap each other on the back and tell each other how great they are.

That's true, but I also think he's correct in his opinion about her. In a contest of winning approval, you shouldn't alienate anyone. It was a pretty stupid answer given the circumstances, but I respect the fact that she was honest and didn't give a fuck about what people thought and just carried on with her REAL opinion, not some canned pageant response.

I think you're assuming 20% of the gay population is 80%. Most gay people hate the celebrity of Perez Hilton because he causes stereotypes like the one above. He's an idiot.
I agree with him that she gave an alienating answer which was probably a bad idea, but think he went about it all the wrong way and that he shouldn't have been allowed to ask that question in the first place. That pagaent isn't really the place for controversial political discussion.

Exactly. That was spot-on, Drem.

Re: Perez Hilton
jay i think maybe i'm just going to let you speak for me from now on because everything you say is what i'm thinking but would probably be unable to articulate as clearly.
good on that girl for being true to herself, but yeah, probably not the best forum for doing so when Miss USA or whatever is supposed to be unifying, not alienating.

Re: Perez Hilton
Her only issue IMO was she didn't say it right. Had she been a truly smart person, she could have paused a sec and articulated a response that would not have been offensive.
When you have a gay man ask you a question like that, you don't say what she said with the words she chose. There were a lot of other ways to articulate a response while maintaining and conveying her beliefs and not saying a big fuck you to gays.
Like: "While my personal religious beliefs conflict with some peoples interpretation of what marriage is, I do not feel legislation and laws should be placed upon society to confine or exclude anyone from the benefits of marriage"
That way she maintains her opinion but does not alienate gays. If she feels there should be laws and such, then she shouldn't win, she is meant to represent our country, not separate or divide it, you can't have a left or right wing winner, needs to be balanced.

Re: Perez Hilton
That's basically my opinion of it. There are monetary advantages to being married. Marriage is a religious term. I think civil unions should have the same benefits as a married couple.

Re: Perez Hilton
Life would just be easier if "Marriage" was not legally acknowledged. Couples should all have civil unions for the current benefits given to married people and a "marriage" should be something recognized by a religion. This would solve all the GOD says no arguments.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

I agree with this.
Specifying that marriage is a religious term and can legally only be used as such would give that specific group 'special privileges', wouldn't it? I think it'd open up a whole new can of worms in religious superiority, regardless of legal status, if you allowed marriage to only be legally used on religious unions.
If people would stfu and stop trying to police other people's lives based on their own personal moral interests, the world would be a better place.
If it's legal, it's consentual, and it doesn't harm you - cram it up your cramhole imo.

Re: Perez Hilton
I think Perez is pretty funny. /shrug
But I am 100% positive if her answer went the other way Perez would have given her a standing ovation and put all his support behind her. He wouldn't have told her that her answer should have been "leave it up to the state to decide".
And this thread is about to turn into another 25 page debate on same sex marriage. Congrats Mindia.

This is what the winner had to say today i guess
Miss USA wrote:“The beautiful part about America is that we have the right to choose. We have the right to choose who we want to love, commit and spend the rest of our lives with,” the radiant 22-year-old told TODAY’s Al Roker Wednesday in New York. “I think that all couples … should be able to be recognized legally. They should be able to enter into a union. Whether or not it should be defined as marriage, I’ll leave that up to the politicians.”

Re: Perez Hilton
And that's a well thought out answer.
And no, Perez isnt funny anymore. He used to be until he started "marking" his pictures with Microsoft Paint cum stains and coke noses. It was funny the first couple pictures, not so much a year later.
