Weren't we just discussing someone who killed someone by driving drunk and wasn't even suspended from football?

Yes, what happened was idiotic, and tragic. Yes, if his name was Ted Smith, he probably would have gotten into a lot more trouble.

But look at some of what he did in the Senate: Civil Rights act. Voting rights act. CHIP health care laws for health care for more than 5 million kids. He worked across the isle with republicans a LOT, and cared more about getting stuff done to help people than which political party it benefited. He spent more than 40 years in public office serving his country. If anyone ever atoned for something as stupid as what he did when he was young, he did.

I was so distraught upon the dismal news of Teddy's death that I almost called in sick to work. Woe is me...

He was a major piece of shit like his entire family was. I can't think of another family involved with so much crime and corruption as the kennetards, especially TK. It's absolutely mind-boggling as to why he's going to get to be interred at Arlington. I do feel bad for the pain his loved ones are going through right now, but that's about the extent of my sympathy.

Mmm k. Funny how you turn into a conspiracy theorist whenever it comes to democrats but when it's a republican involved either you're sticking up for them or you're nowhere to be found.

Au contraire. I have pointed out a lot of lunacy coming from Republicans over the years. Liberals like you and most others here are the ones who consistently tow the political line and think that your party can do no wrong. By the way, how do you feel about Barry now? lol Are you ready to admit that he was a HUGE mistake... the wrong man at the wrong time? No, of course not. He's done nothing wrong since taking office right? LOL

I don't feel anything. Feels the same as when Bush was president. Lots of talk, not a lot of action.

But in any case I don't think Obama's really able to do much. He'll have to spend both terms fixing what Bush screwed up. And assuming our next president isn't a whackjob, whatever party he may represent, he may actually make some forward progress

That's how I feel about it, anyway

I'd go off into some huge post about how tasteless, wrong, and hypocritical you are, Mindia, but I know there's no point. If Jesus had a D beside his name, you'd start worshipping Satan.

not a socialist, the way the book of acts describes the way the early christians lived is closer to communism.

and where does this bullshit about not talking ill of the dead come from? one should only speak the truth. while TK did do some great things while he was in the senate he also spent most of his adult life as a drunken asshole

most of his adult life as a drunken asshole? really? provide daily examples of that, please, since it was most of his adult life. I could've sworn he spent most of his adult life in diligent service to the civil rights of American citizens, and made some dumb mistakes along the way. personal misgivings and foolish private life endeavors aside, I'd love to know how his mistakes classify him as a drunken asshole in light of the fact that the good he contributed far outweighed the handful of incidents in his private life. (edited to clarify so i don't get some list of mistakes and debauchery from his personal life - I'm well aware and don't think you could even remotely classify him as a "drunken asshole" because of them. foolhardy and mistake prone, yes. drunken asshole, no.)

communism is a political philosophy and form of government. socialism is not. apples and oranges. not to mention that I'm not talking about christians, I'm talking specifically about jesus.

I know alot of drunken assholes who didn't do great things with their life and I still wouldn't talk shit about them. Not the way you did anyway.

And I think the decision to talk shit about someone after they are dead is just a matter of how you were raised. It's like asking someone how much money they make or how much they paid for their house, it's just uncouth.

And don't compared Ted Kennedy to someone like Hitler to get your point across just because they're both dead. That would be a pretty big stretch.

Jesus was not a democrat or a republican. He had some (of what we'd call today) "liberal viewpoints," but overall He is considered to be a conservative, or more closely aligned to what are today's "conservative" beliefs (Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach him HOW to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.) I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you liberals who want to argue that Jesus was a liberal. He wasn't. Get over it.

Now about TK...

Forever known as the Chappaquiddick Incident after the Massachusetts island where it took place, the scandal in 1969 broke the Kennedy grip on the White House.

A drunk Ted had been driving back from a party to the family 'compound' on Martha's Vineyard when he veered off a bridge and into a deep tidal dyke.

Drowned: Mary Jo Kopechne was killed after Ted Kennedy drove his car off a bridge with her inside.

Mary Jo was in the back seat and, while he claimed he was just giving her a lift back to her hotel, it was widely thought that he had picked her up for sex. Kennedy swam ashore to save himself, but left Mary Jo to drown - in fact, it was even worse than that.

It was nine hours before he reported the accident. In the meantime, he walked back to his motel, complained to the manager about a noisy party, took a shower, went to sleep, ordered newspapers when he woke up and spoke to a friend and two lawyers before finally calling the police.

Divers later estimated that if he had called them immediately, they would have had time to pull out Mary Jo. She had not drowned, but had survived in an air pocket inside the car - she was asphyxiated only when the oxygen ran out several hours later.

As always, Ted used the family name to save his neck. In any other state but Massachusetts, the Kennedys' home turf, and with any other name, he would have been charged with homicide.

Instead, he escaped with a slap on the wrist: a two-year suspended sentence and the loss of his driving licence for a year. He had been allowed to plead guilty to no more than the charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Kennedy lawyers arranged for him to pay $55,000 to the Kopechne family from his own pocket with a further $30,000 from his insurance. Mary Jo's mother later said: 'I don't think he ever said he was sorry.'

Oh, but this was "JUST AN INCIDENT" right? :-x
