Pot, o wait

Postby ClakarEQ » Thu Oct 08, 2009 12:13 pm

Yeah I know, I post shit like this on and off and I'm not looking for another POT thread, BUT . . .
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33217246/ns/us_news-life/

As it turns out, there are so many damn pot smokers in our nation, and now that many states have medical pot, and many folks are just risking it and growing their own, we are actually doing more damage to the cartels than our GOV has been able to do even though they spends MILLIONS on stopping it.

I just find that strangely ironic (perhaps used out of line re: definition)

I wonder what kind of problems would have been solved if people spent the time and energy they use on the defense of marijuana on something that actually mattered.

Well I guess its all in the eye of the beholder on what matters. I think not over filling prisons and courts , weakening criminal enterprise, more personal freedom , and helping broke states create more revenue might matter.

Jay, I think the proper question here is, what kind of problems could the government solve if it stopped trying to criminalize between 10-20% of our nations citizens?

However that really wasn't the point of my post, it was more towards the fact that, if Cali does this, it will set a precedent, one that IMO would be good. Good for the state, good for the feds, good for the people, and bad for the cartels.

EDIT
To avoid a bump, /agree with the post from tikker below

I would rather pay for the cities/towns to pick up recycling than to keep pot smokers in jail.

So "bout two weeks late on that space cadet" probably would have made more sense.

Typically you don't round up to an entire month if you haven't even passed the half month marker.

Ginz I think you're under playing how big a deal that is. I suppose it all depends on how it gets done but I can predict less arrests / convictions just because of that one statement / document.

With everything going on in the world right now, it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

It's potheads we're talkin about here. I'm sure they will find a way to convince themselves that pot could've prevented tsunamis.

hahaha, that's funny Jay, however I agree with Ginz in the context of "global issues".

Since you brought it up though, if pot were never made illegal, there would be farms of pot plants just off shore by now because it would have been hydroponically optimized to grow in salt water as well as to great heights of 50-60 even 100' of dense redwood forest type "stems" such that threats like tsunamis wouldn't even exist.

Even the doomsday issue of massive solar flares would be solved because the potwood forests would have leaves so thick it could blanket the entire earth, with a protective dome of sorts.

And the fruit the plants would bear could be cultured to taste like anything we want, from steak to tofu or strawberries to coconuts.

Don't discard the power of pot

hopefully someone gets a laugh out of that :)

actually, I was going to comment on how the hemp plant can be planted in dunes and retain some of the barrier islands which help prevent much of the erosion which is the real culprit behind the devastation of tsunamis.
