i can deal with the cold readily enough what bothers me about this is that it is absolutely bone dry. it is so cold my well water froze

at least if it snows you have some insulation

winter just took a giant shit on our area this week--8 or 9 inches of snow (or more) and windchills of nearly -25, i think. blehhh. i don't mind it that much, actually, because i really love winter and it's been awfully mild so far (this is our first real snow, and it's unheard of to wait until mid-december for that to happen in nebraska!), but i'm mad that i had to work every day this week when all the schools and universities and other various businesses got to close and stay home. AND i have to wear a skirt to work. (actually i got to wear pants one day this week, when it was bone-chillingly cold and the plows hadn't been through yet. it was glorious.)

lol this isn't even close to a normal winter. oregon doesn't experience "winter". it just gets a little colder. someone from michigan was telling me about a recent freeze + wind from the east that blew all the ice around and wrecked a bunch of shit. that sounds like winter to me. the worst thing that happens here is like... your pipes might freeze if you don't leave a sink running 24/7. or your car might break because it's not prepped for the cold

i don't even think we've broken any records. four years ago it was like this but it actually rained and covered Eugene in a sheet of ice for three or four days

the news here actually called what's been going on "the Deep Freeze" lol

If it was glorious to wear pants, then why don't you wear pants to work everyday? Or does your boss likes ogle your legs so much that he make you wear skirts?

No, -40C = -40F

-45C does = -49F tho. ;)

(typos, so powa!)

I've only been in as cold as -30F myself. Effectively -50F is craziness.

Even worse is the fact that I can say I've experienced weather colder than that far more often than I'd like.

How sad that there's so little interesting stuff going on that we've reduced ourselves to talking about the weather =\
