Looking for a new toy. Anyone have a PSP Go?

Post by Zanchief »

I'm bored with my Touch and I'm looking from something new to play with (preferably without iTunes).

Is the go completely worthless? I know it's a bit pricey but that doesn't bother me so much, I'm more worried about it being worthless.

Basically, can I play videos I download on it easily. I'm guessing I'd have to convert them (which I have to do with iTunes anyway). I'd rather not hack it at all. Is there a ton of anti-piracy stuff in it right from the get go or is it similar to the PS3?

Is it easy to connect to you computer / PS3? Does it use wi-fi to connect to your computer, is the web browser useless?

Anyway. I guess I'm looking for an excuse to buy it sadly. The internet is just full of these xbox sony fanboys fighting.

It's basically the same as the psp slim just different shape

you can't hack it at all so it's hard to get certain functionality. That being said I used my psp all the time until I got my touch which I prefer. If you do get a psp I've got a locationfree player I'll sell you cheap. It's like a sling box but for Sony works awesome

This location free player intrigues me since I'm more interested in a portable media centre then a portable gaming system.

Does it let me play videos from my PSP on my tv or vice versa? I'm less interested in playing things from my psp to my tv since I can do that already.

Are there any games your could recommend? I looked through the library and it seems to be wall to wall crap~

it takes any video input (your tv, vcr, dvd player, whatever) and streams it to your PSP
actually, it lets you hook up 2 inputs and lets you toggle between them. right now I've got one hooked up to my satellite receiver (starchoice/shaw direct). I had the second hooked up to my HTPC but that was mostly just to see if I could tbo.
the video quality is surprisingly decent. can be used on your local lan, or out on the internet.

depends on what you like I guess. I really enjoyed the PSP version of the Final Fantasy Tactics game. the FF7 game is pretty neat, but really only if you liked the original FF7 (it tells a ton of the backstory while being a very different style of game)

the twisted metal remake was good. the Resistance game was very decent. i didn't expect a shooter to work on the PSP, but there's a couple ok ones

if you like god of war, the psp version is alright

don't forget that you have access to basically the entire PSX catalogue on the psp

the shitty part is the psp go can't be hacked yet (i think) otherwise you'd have access to all the GBA, SNES, NES, Genesis and PSX games too.

I also use my PSP as a bookreader (or did, until i got my iPod touch) as well as a GPS

yup, as far as I know

if you had a hacked psp, you could just load up the psx games yourself, since the PSX emulator is built into the firmware

i really liked the form factor of the psp Go

I guess a hacked PSP would be cool, but I just don't want to go that route right now.

This slingbox you were mentioning, is it a legal app? Will I have to mod in order to use it? I guess it streams over wi-fi, is there much lag?

This is sounding pretty cool.

And for playing files, can I just download an AVI file, convert and play it on the PSP?

locationfree is built right into the PSP firmware. legit sony product. it's pretty great to be honest. you also can install a PC version (as many as you want, it's free) and watch tv that way if you are so inclined

yup
there's a ton of converters out there, most do a pretty good job

now if you had a hacked PSP you install something like PiMPStreamer (lame name but whatever) that just streams your video files from your pc right to the psp
