ps. get ready for the new GMO labels.

They only say "GMO-Free" for products certified to not contain any foreign genetic material. What kind of shit is that? I want my food to at least be what I was looking for when I bought it on the genetic level. Not a hybridization with an Artic water fish for it's frost perseverance and amphibian DNA for a longer shelf life.

You might want to amend your "science" statement with a word like pseudo or junk.

An organic label is completely meaningless. It's just to appease people who want to believe they're connoisseurs.

Feel free to pay three times the price for a piece of fruit that will last one quarter the time on your shelf because some farmer didn't use harmless pesticides on it.

I have to think that Zan is baiting here. Anyone who's actually been shopping in the last few years would have noticed a dramatic increase in the quality of produce now that there is so much focus put on how it's grown.

I go by the organic produce section and see wilted lettuce and moldy peaches on my way to the good stuff that's actually still ripe because someone had the sense to spray it with stuff that keeps it from rotting. Mmmmm delicious growth hormones.

If that's your experience, you're doing it wrong. Try a quality grocery store that actually buys decent organic and locally grown produce.

It's funny that you would think modified produce would be less healthy when the reason they do it is to have them be larger, healthier and last longer. I guess since I don't shop in bizarro world of make-believe and cognitive dissonance then yes, I am doing it wrong.

If you believe the reason "they do it" is to make them healthier, you'd be doing it wrong again. "They" do it to maximize profits. Again, try shopping somewhere that actually has a vested interest in locally and organically grown produce and you'll find much better results. If you can't see the multiple levels of benefit in supporting local, organically grown produce, you fail.

They do it to make their crops last longer so they can sell them for longer and make more profits. You know who wins? People who have enough common sense to realize the fallacy of claiming some food isn't organic.

If you want to support your local produce out of misguided patriotism have it, I can't argue with that, but don't claim your spoiled fruit is better because it doesn't have pesticides. In actual fact (real science) it's worse.

I'm not sure where the confusion is coming from because I am pretty sure you aren't retarded. Just because it has an organic label on it, doesn't make it better. Obviously, where you shop, they make more money off of the mega foods so they buy shitty organic food to throw the hippies a bone. The farmers markets and co-ops here have awesome locally grown food so there's really no need too even step foot in the supermarkets anymore.

As long as you're in agreement that these "organic" standards are bullshit I've got no beef with you. I shop at local markets for good deals and fresh fruit.

tossica's arguing the same point i'm trying to make. processed foods are BULLSHIT. it's ALWAYS better to go local/regional. organic is just trying to show the consumer that they put more work into their food than like... Hormel or Kraft or Bar-S or McDonald's etc.

you're all caught up on the word organic and we're not even trying to argue it. except the part where you've convinced your stupid self that pesticides and growth hormones are good things to ingest

we can take the word "organic" out of the argument if it makes you feel better. because all we're arguing here is quality. food grown in chemical-free soil that isnt' sprayed with pesticides are going to have more nutrients, more minerals, and better sensory perception. this isn't some big fuckin mystery. they teach it in culinary schools across the world to thousands of people every year. and after reading these posts from you i seriously suggest you take a nutrition class

and please don't confuse any of this with some kinda mindset like i'm not gonna buy an apple if it isn't certified organic because that's stupid too (and i'm way too poor). if i have the extra cash and i'm making something particularly fun i'll probably spring for the best of the best

but you just simply asked "how is a tomato sprayed with pesticide not organic?" and there's a very simple answer to that and it has to do with the soil

and that's that

Well since you brought up science feel free to find me some evidence that this is true. I'll spoil it for you Mr. 8 times the nutrients, you'll come up short, because this statement is not true. You may have learned it in culinary school but that doesn't mean it's true.

While you're scouring scientific periodicals Drem, please find me some evidence that pesticides and growth hormones are harmful to people.

Good luck.

ok Flink i'll get links about the big bad conspiracy that is organic food because you can't just educate yourself

um, no

i don't have links anyways. i have texts. because i actually studied this. unlike you

or wait, is the whole ACF just a crock of shit because zanchief a botanist now? because he thinks growth hormones actually make his food healthier, not just bigger and emptier to help its purveyors undercut their competition??? get real dumbshit

I don't expect you to find one because no such creditable scientifically proven source exists. If there was evidence that persticides caused cancer and killed wildlife they would be banned.

by who and after how long? you saw what just happened in the gulf of mexico with that oil, right? it's all about money and conveniece. how do you not get this yet

what a fuckin sheep

and PS: you won't find any evidence supporting your bullshit claims either. because all the research is inconclusive, if you need a serious scientific opinion anyway. it's all just speculation. you're just gullible enough to listen to them that what they're doing is actually in your best interests

i mean here's just one of many articles telling you how much of an idiot you are if you're willing to listen. even tho it's .org i'm sure you'll find a way to pass it off as uncredible. or you'll want like an FDA report itself, which'll never happen because banning fungicides and herbicides and pesticides would ruin all the lucritive farming monopolies that help shoddily feed our country. not to mention pesticides fuck with the natural order of the world itself but whatever, no big deal as long as you get your huge flavorless tomatoes at a steal of a price, right?

the king of all food! it's hilarious when our local purveyors come thru with real product. we'll always have a little rant about how shitty sysco is and how they're the king of all food

zanchief would love sysco. they do everything the way it sounds like he would
