I do think there are going to be increased natural disasters, and I believe they will be more intense than what we've seen lately. But how far should we really go to prepare? It is interesting that many past cultures (not just the Mayans) have all predicted something terrible happening to the earth in 2012. And God only knows what the lunatic Ahmadinejad has up his sleeve on top of all that. Is anybody here taking any of this seriously, or do you just have the attitude that it'll all blow over easily and relatively uneventful like Y2K? Would it be unreasonable or fanatical to start stocking up on a few emergency items like: Water purification tablets, vegetable seeds, pre-made vacuum-packed meals (that have a 10-20 year shelf life), topographical maps, compass, hand-crank radios, batteries, candles, waterproof matches, emergency blankets, etc. etc. etc... ?
I've actually read a couple books on 2012 (but not the survival guide link I posted), and my thoughts on it are that something bad IS coming. I'm not sure exactly yet on how far I'm willing to go, or how much money I'm willing to spend preparing for it to ensure my family's survival.
Here's a couple more links of interesting stuff:
