Seeing the "Inc gun debate" from the Zune thread made me think of some legislation trying to get passed here in Oklahoma. There's two bills up for open-carry of a firearm. One has passed the OK Senate, the other has passed the OK House of Reps.

Senate bill would allow anyone 18 or over to openly carry a gun without any training or license.

I think its a good thing. That said I dont know of anywhere near oklahoma that is like detroit but still a man has the right to defend himself his shit and his loved ones. Im a little iffy on 18 year olds packing heat but if they can vote and join than army than i guess its alright. I basicly think anyone who isnt a total wack job should be allowed to carry a gun but i also think that people who abuse that right should be dealt with in an extremely harsh manor. I think weve covered this on the nameless about a billion times now. People arent just going to start having duels and poppin off shots just because they have a gun on them. People who carry weapons in a responsible way are not the people responsible for gun crime. The likely hood that you will have to draw your weapon and defend yourself is slim to none but its really better safe than sorry. Ive had to pull my gun twice since Ive had one once in an alley and once with a buncha hoodlums trying to come through my window. Both situations were resolved without a single shot fired but i prolly woulda gotten fucked up on both of those occasions without it. Id say the majority of people who carry dont want to kill anyone but they dont want anyone to kill them either. Depending on where you live the world is either a safe lovely place or scary as your wildest imagination.

I just feel there's no need for handguns and an overtly armed populace, and I think it's far too easy for anyone and everyone to have guns.

My opinion is they all should be outlawed, and the second amendment is a load of garbage and adds nothing to our country. I grew up in a household with more guns than some small South American countries. My Dad was ex military and Law Enforcement. I was in the military. I have fired weapons in combat. I'd argue I have more experience with guns and weapons than probably anyone on this board.

oregon is a open carry state and i've never in 26 years seen someone walk around with a handgun on their belt

I shoot least i used to when i had time and money. I hunt. I live in a shitty part of the world. Guns are part of my every day existence and i fear for my safety when i dont have them ( still fighting with the westland pd over that matter). In a few weeks I have to go to court to testify against my neighbors and then i have a feeling that shit is going to get pretty fucking real.

All this debate really comes down to in my mind is where you live. If you live in a safe place where people dont get assaulted and robbed all the damn time you prolly think they are silly and dangerous. If you live in a rougher part of town where having to defend yourself or your people is a very real possibility they seem like a good tool to have around.

Lat but not least we already live in a nanny state and I really dont think any of us need the govt telling us anymore things that we cant do. Ill take my freedoms ..... all of them and the ones I dont have ill continue to wish for. I hate to sound like flink but if whatever im doing isnt harming you than i should have the right to do it.


One last thing before I go . Cars kill like a bajillion people a year and I dont hear anyone hollering about banning them how dangerous they are or people needing mmore "training"

My big issue with guns is that they're such in impersonal way pwn someone. ie, it'd be way easier in spur of the moment to shoot someone in the face from 10-100 yards away than it would be to strangle/drown/etc

I would have had to fight multiple dudes in my house with what a knife or a bat while my girl was there on the other. Neither of those sound look good options to me since im not fuckin insane or suicidal. Im not jet li and I would have gotten owned. Also without that gun me or my attackers could have all been hurt a lot worse or dead. Instead everyone backed down and decided to increase the peace.
