serious question.

Postby leah » Tue Jul 05, 2011 7:43 pm

soooo we were in colorado on vacation for the past five days, and during a family scavenger hunt (ugghghhh) something bit me. i didn't feel it at all and didn't even realize it until i'd gotten back to the cabin and there was a shmear of blood on my arm. when i washed it off, it just looked like a red freckle and it was no big deal. but now, the center is swollen and hard and hot to the touch and the surrounding area is red. it's not the deer-tick bullseye but it's also not pretty.

A. wtf bit me?
2. what should i do about it?
d. am i going to die??!!?!

swelling + hardness + redness + warmth = mmm porbably get it checked out at your doctor or at least linccare

it's probably nothing but it's a lot better to know that it's nothing than just hope imo

I would call the advice nurse at whatever hospital is local to you, and potentially go in to urgent care and have it looked at if it gets any worse.

Yeah, go get it checked out, but my guess is a spider of some sort. If a tick had bit you, it would still be there. They're not the "bite and let go" sort.

The swelling, warmth and redness are your body's natural healing reaction. I'd be deeply concerned if there was pus or if the tissue was a dark red/dusky color. However, I'd still advise you to have it looked at to play it safe. Likely they'll tell you to keep it clean and maybe put some ice on it to reduce swelling.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me this weekend. Got bit in the leg by something while I was at the beach with the kiddies and it swelled up a lot and got very warm and itchy. It was a pain for a few days but it went away. Bugs suck.

The only good bug is a dead bug. Welcome to the Rough Necks.

You have no idea the EVIL of bugs I have to put up with here. There's some little fucktard of a bug that bit me two months ago. My entire left torso was covered in a rash that gave me no pain and didn't itch. In fact it had no abnormal feeling. Two months later I still have marks on me.

Every tree... and I mean every one of them... has a shit load of ants in them. I've had ant nests fall all over me countless times (and they bite!) while trying to get this yard picture perfect. I moved into a new place.....

I've spotted two Malayan Cobras and killed two of them (haven't been spit on yet, yay!) I'd actually leave them alone as they aren't very dangerous, but I'm concerned my dog would be a dumbshit and go harass the cobra. I also have a Civit Cat living in my ceiling, which I'm determined to tame as my new pet haha.

Right, because 1st world nations regularly ban political rallies, and tear gas people. See the following article:

yep, pretty much.

i can't remember to take pills every day and also my insurance doesn't cover them at all, so it's either keep spending $70 per month every month OR put in an IUD every five years for $900. cost-effectiveness!

Depends on the type. Some are hormones, others are metals which change PH levels.

meh, we'll see. i did a lot of research going in, and talked extensively with my lady doctor before making a commitment. mirena came highly recommended from many friends (one of whom is a labor & delivery nurse with many friends in the gynecological field, and they all recommended it)--i think for every scary horror story, there is another complete success story. every person's body is different and will react differently, you know? at any rate, if things start to go wonky, i can always have it taken out. no worries.

My girl had one put in last year. Win! She doesn't get her period anymore either... kind of a weird side effect but she's not complaining.
