No, this is what happens when you show up on a message board after months of inactivity and post in RL threads without reading first. It's also a classic "Mike" move for which I'm famous: sticking my foot in my mouth at the most inopportune moments. Usually, they're totally random occurrences - things I couldn't possibly have predicted. I once made fun of a close friend for wearing a "gay dragonfly brooch" to work only to see her tear up and tell me that her dead brother (cancer @ age 15) was nicknamed Dragonfly as a kid because he loved bugs so much. Today was the anniversary of his passing and... yeah, I'm a dick. How the hell was I supposed to know?

Anyway, this one was absolutely preventable and I'm truly sorry, Gyps. I feel like a complete asshole and am having trouble sleeping over this 'once again' classic fuck up. If I had my old NT powers, I would have just deleted all of the offending posts and checked IP logs to verify you never saw this, but alas... it's public record now. So, yeah... I'm a dick.

Gypsiyee, I'm very sorry for my lack of sensitivity but most especially for your loss.

Sorry didn't try to turn this all serious. I was just making a little joke. I'm sure Gypsie is tough enough not to be offended by either your comment or my little quip. Man, now I feel bad.

i still remember the first time i made a "your mom" joke with my then-new friend stev only to find out that his mom had passed when he was 16

he was cool about it but goddamn did i feel like a shitlord for a few days

since then i've been very careful about stuff like that (with only one slip - i once made a comment after seeing a yellow H2 drive by, to the effect of "dude that looks like a short bus" and my pal johnny was like "dude my brother rides the short bus")

i did that "your mom" thing to a co-worker at village inn once whose mom had died and never do it anymore unless i am damn sure of their situation. mostly i just say "your face" instead. :boots:

Nothin like a good foot in the mouth. Last summer I was in a wedding and had an EASY get it in with one of the bridesmates (and I mean easy) and the night of the wedding we were just sitting at the bar flirting around and I said something that had the word retard in it and she was like oh, my brother is special. Aaaaand that ended that. Damnit, thinking about that still ruins my day. HUGE tits

I was out of town. Congrats Vonk =)

Nah, I'm definitely not one to project my own misfortunes onto someone else's happiness =p neither of you should feel bad. This is NT.. I almost half expected a nasty "that's what you get for being pro choice" or "even your own body doesn't want you to breed" comment. Nothing offensive about being proud of your spawn ;) and it wouldn't be NT if Zan didn't zing you for it

when I had to keep going into the doctor's office for follow up ultrasounds to see if I had passed yet and the receptionist kept asking me for the rest of my labor and delivery deposit after I'd already told her 3 times that I'd miscarried, now that bitch I wanted to punch in the throat.

holy crap. i want to drive there and slash her tires for you. that's kind of unacceptable.

on a somewhat related note (and yes, this is a stretch, but it's baby-related and i was gobsmacked by this story so i want to share): my friend just recently told me the story behind her son's premature birth. apparently she was one of those people who didn't know she was pregnant--she gave birth at 25 weeks after having really bad cramps for a day or two and deciding to go to the hospital to see if she had a cyst or something, only to be informed that "ummm, we're taking you to the ER right now; you're in labor" with a baby she didn't even know she was having. during the 25 weeks that she was pregnant, she had been to her lady doctor twice for her yearly and for another exam, and that guy failed to notice the pregnancy and even prescribed her with BC pills! so, aiden was born severely premature and coded literally 39 times during the months he was in the hospital. he's still going strong, though--he's seven years old now and has no lingering mental or physical side effects except for decreased lung capacity. he is a miracle baby. needless to say, jamie sued the shit out of that doctor.

Well, if she wasn't showing a whole lot (and must not have been if she didn't notice being pregnant), most of the lady exams I have been to are just a quick peek and the Q-tip, and then the doctor says "Ok, see you next year!" There's not a lot of clues in a 30 second exam to give that away, especially if he or she wasn't doing an ultrasound or anything. I've also never had a doctor randomly use doppler on me to listen for a baby's heart beat just in case I might be pregnant. I can understand being upset about having it missed and the scary implications of it... and I don't know what this "other exam" was for, but I can completely see how the doctor could have missed the pregnancy during the yearly exam. Especially if it was early in the pregnancy. Without knowing the details of the "other exam", I sort of hope the doctor won that one.

i get what you're saying for sure, and unfortunately i don't have a good answer--i wasn't listening to the details too closely (what kind of tests there were, etc.) because i was too busy being squicked out by the whole situation (you know, getting lost down the "OMG could that happen to me???" rabbit hole), but i'm pretty sure there was a reason that the doctor was in the wrong. sorry i don't have better details. :(

lame story is lame hehe. mostly i'm just amazed that it happened at all.

With any of the stories I've heard along those same lines, I assume there's a level of denial that goes along with it.

you know, many women continue to get periods while pregnant (although they're usually lighter--more like spotting than an actual period). not common, i don't think, but it does happen.

Second to that, some women don't have regular periods either due to stress, diet, and other factors. Case in point, my girlfriend went for 3 months w/o her period when she went to South America for 3 months, had it for one month, and then started a stressful internship and has been w/o her period since. Not pregnant (she is paranoid and has taken several tests).

a related aside: i'm told that my period is about to get super wonky because of the new IUD, so i'm going to do everything in my power not to let it freak me out and lead to the spending of lots of unnecessary dollars on pregnancy tests, ha.

This Thursday, we are having a grand opening for the project I've been working on for the past year.

The primary investor comes in tomorrow morning to prepare for meetings with the mayor & other local politicians & the news media.

yeah leah's new dog is p cool, and good luck 10sun

my slow-pitch coed softball team got seeded 3rd in the top bracket's single elim tourney, but due to a combination of some very (imo) poor coaching decisions and the dominance of an elite opposing pitcher we got knocked out in the semifinals by a score of 8-4 - which ended our season (and our 7-game win streak) with a 9-3 overall record. i was/am very rageface about it since i didn't really feel the coach put any/enough thought into the lineup and fielding placement. that being said, it really was a great sophomore season, considering we finished 3-5 last summer lol

now i will be bored for the next few fridays until fall league starts up again ;\

maybe it's different here than there, but how do you have an elite pitcher in slow pitch?

here, you just toss the ball in a somewhat gentle arc, and play defense

if you're "pitching" underhand we call it softball
