Rosetta Stone
Anybody here use this system to learn a new language? Supposedly it's what the CIA uses to train our operatives. I'm just wondering how it compares to Berlitz and other language learning systems and if you'd recommend it.

Re: Rosetta Stone
i have a copy i got from work couple years back
basically you are shown a picture of a boy and underneath is the word for boy
as you advance its more in the picture but the description is the same
if you want to learn a language use immersion. if you want to learn spanish move to a spanish speaking country

Re: Rosetta Stone
That's interesting, thank you. Immersion isn't really a viable option though. We want to teach our daughter German pretty soon, and they say that children can absorb a new language like a sponge.

They can, but it has to be spoken around them all the time for them really to do it, and then they have to keep using it, or they will forget it.

Lexi goes to her Omi and Opa's house (my parents, who are immigrants from Germany) and they teach her some German, which I think is great, but I'd like to get some formal German lqnguage learning program too.Arlos wrote:They can, but it has to be spoken around them all the time for them really to do it, and then they have to keep using it, or they will forget it.

Re: Rosetta Stone
My dad uses Rosetta Stone for Swedish (my farmor was an immigrant from Sweden) and he likes it for some things, but it hasn't been something for him that's aided in making him fluent or anything. just little words and phrases here and there, but it may work for Lexi since she's so young.
an aside, I think Lexi must be the new it name or something. my friends had a baby in February and named her Alexia but call her Lexi, and my cousin just had a baby that he named Lexi. My cousin's baby was a huge relief.. just before they'd gotten pregnant, his wife lost their baby at 8 1/2 months. My cousin has 2 from a previous marriage, but it was Lacey's first. I can't even imagine the pain she went through losing her that late in the pregnancy.

Re: Rosetta Stone
That's aweful. I can't imagine life without Lexi, and I don't even want to think about that. Choosing names is a fun, but arduous process. Alexis was a populae name 7 years ago, and Megan replaced it as most popular, and we wanted to shy away from the "most popular" list. Now it seems there has been a resurgence of the name Alexis, or derivatives thereof. We named her Alexis Anastasia. There's a loader at the Chevron refinery I go to who had a baby daughter last year. They named her Savannah Skye. lol so cute!

Re: Rosetta Stone
Never heard that term before, but yes... I'm a first-generation American. Full- blooded Kraut lol. My wife is 50% German, 25% Irish, and 25% Native American (Cherokee). Her grandfather looks like Sitting Bull. lol. That's not a Jape or insult either. He's cool as hell. Tough old buzzard too. He's like 87 and tough as nails.

Re: Rosetta Stone
