An improbable desire.
Automatic poll to close threads where votes are based upon post count.
Reaching 33% of total posts on this board will close the thread unless 50% vote to keep it open.
or maybe something of a similar nature where 50%+ can vote to ban a user.

what
The idea sounds a bit extreme to me, but I'd love the ability to "rate" posters and to have a filter that would not display posts from people with low ratings.
If you wanted post-count to come into play, I'm in favor of only allowing people with post counts greater than 100 to vote (even knowing that that would exclude me). I think a full weighting by post-count would be way too extreme.
My 2 cents,
Menlaan

It's called message board "karma"... the 'user' ratings system, that is.
The 'thread' voting system is also doable.

If taking any vote that is weighted by post count, I'd suggest using the value of cube root of the post count.
So...
1 post = 1 vote
8 posts = 2 votes
27 posts = 3 votes
64 posts = 4 votes
125 posts = 5 votes
216 posts = 6 votes
343 posts = 7 votes
512 posts = 8 votes
729 posts = 9 votes
1000 posts = 10 votes
1331 posts = 11 votes
1728 posts = 12 votes
2197 posts = 13 votes
2744 posts = 14 votes
3375 posts = 15 votes
4096 posts = 16 votes
4913 posts = 17 votes
5832 posts = 18 votes
6859 posts = 19 votes
8000 posts = 20 votes
9261 posts = 21 votes
This gives the long time posters more weight without making the casual poster's opinon meaningless. It also reduces the effect of spamming to increase post count.
So...
1 post = 1 vote
8 posts = 2 votes
27 posts = 3 votes
64 posts = 4 votes
125 posts = 5 votes
216 posts = 6 votes
343 posts = 7 votes
512 posts = 8 votes
729 posts = 9 votes
1000 posts = 10 votes
1331 posts = 11 votes
1728 posts = 12 votes
2197 posts = 13 votes
2744 posts = 14 votes
3375 posts = 15 votes
4096 posts = 16 votes
4913 posts = 17 votes
5832 posts = 18 votes

I like Mudcrush's idea a lot better than a one-for-one weighting, but I still think that a cut-off would be better (i.e. a vote is a vote so long as the poster has greater than X posts and has been registered for greater than X days).
Let's face it: some (note that I didn't say "many" or "all") of the high post-count people should be some of the ones with low ratings. This won't happen if the high post-count people's votes overwhelm other votes.

The way I understand it...
Board Karma simply sets a higher or lower ranking for a user.
Thread voting simply sets a certain 'standard' for threads... you see one thread that has a '5' ranking... which says, "this is a good thread." You see another that has a bunch of votes of 1, and it eventually gets LOCKED.
Incorporating the two of these with a post-count limitation would be fairly difficult, and therefore... not gonna happen.
However, ya'll should look into what phpBB 'groups' are all about. You could have a specific 'senior members only' discussion group... even whole forums that require 1000 posts or whatever to enter... you could have a chain email setup... individual moderators for these 'special' forums...
I've also been toying around with the idea of letting some of you have namelesstavern.org email addresses =p. Maybe make it an automatic freebie if you have over 4,000 posts... or I could sell them for $5 each, to help cover board costs. Kaemon paid for the entire first year, but I've upgraded servers and have additional expenses now 8(.
What else...
Oh, avatar uploading... that is certainly doable. I could set it up to allow for users to upload avatars into a directory that could be viewable by anyone within their profile screen... it would be like,
"gallery_9_user-uploads" in the drop-down menu. Creative!
Other ideas...
More traffic. I'd like this board to carry over into the WoW days... I like the current affairs discussions but would like more traffic in other areas. Sports forum? Sex talk? =p. If enough traffic was generated, we'd need additional mods to help keep shit together.
Brainstorming...
(holy shit, I'm eating some rancid baked beans...)
I guess that's it. I like that you all are taking an interest in discussing 'new' features, keep it going. The board *could* be a cool place to visit, even though my presence here already guarantees that...

I enjoy Mudcrush's idea for how to weight votes, I just have issues with letting anyone who has less than lets say 25 posts being able to vote. It simply prevents assholes who want to "jihad" from actually being able to do anything.
As soon as I get my resume out to a few places, I'll take a look into the PHBB stuff in further detail. I have some database programming experience, might be able to put together a hack or something *shrug*.

It's not really hard... I've just not gotten around to doing a lot of the hacks that I have lined up. I have way too much on my plate lately. I'll be 25 tomorrow and I feel like I'm... all of 26 or maybe even... gasp... 27!
