i know someone who named her kid taelyr. worst name ever. i also know a baby named kale, like the plant. other ridiculous names i've come across: phoenix, blue, na'alii (although at least he's samoan), trice, esther, brayden.... i could go on and on. gross.

as for me, i will continue to make every effort to prevent this from happening (hello IUD, i heart you), BUT: if i were to accidentally reproduce, i have one good, solid, classic name picked out for each gender that i am confident will not result in any playground teasing.

on a related note, my mom told me a couple of years ago that when they named me leah, it didn't occur to them in the slightest that anyone would ever mispronounce it. hahaha. i get "lee" and "leia" all the time, and also it lended itself wonderfully to playground names like leahtard. wheeeeeeee. (although, that said, i do really love my name.)

I try to pick regular names that are bilingual and aren't too crazy. My children’s names are Vincent and Liliana. Even with Liliana we were like, is this too out there? My wife’s brother’s kids all have crazy names like Lukah and Safia and stuff like that. I'm like ok cool that's terrible.

Charles was on my short list, but my wife hated it. I like names that can be abbreviated.
