What do you want for Xmas? (Non-Flamebait Edition)

Post by Griever »

Okay, lets try this again. What cool things are you guys asking for or giving for Christmas? I need ideas for gifts to give to my family/friends or to ask for myself.

Asking for:
20v Dewalt toolset (reciprocating saw, flashlight, circular saw, impact driver, & hammer drill).
Or a little Notebook PC of some sort (my Macbook's battery life is ass).

Getting others:
Girlfriend: coupon book for dates (eg. picnic in the park on a warm spring day, dress up at a fancy steakhouse, etc).
Father: Display case of Mentos Drop (Euro thing, mentos with a black licorice center, he loves them and can't find them in the US).
Mother: Toolbox for some of my old tools & helping her re-finish her house this spring (she just divorced my stepfather & bought a POS house up in Michigan that needs TONS of work).
Sister: a lump of coal, she is a bitch.
Other sister: a lump of coal, she too is a bitch.
Brother: personal hookah.
Other brother: ceramic knife set.

Thats all I have so far.

damn, so many engagements around these parts lately. nice work, men!

i have been having a hard time asking for things this year because there aren't any appropriately priced things that i need. rather, i really would like a dishwasher and a remote car starter and a new kitchen floor and a dining room table and a headboard. all are not reasonably priced to ask other people for. so, i've kind of just been coming up with random requests... i asked josh's mom to get us a futon slipcover, and i asked my mom to get me a new cookie jar to store dog treats in because mine is chipped and falling apart. silly little things.

as for things i'm giving, i haven't come up with anything spectacular this year, but here goes:

dad: amazon gift card to load up his new kindle fire
mom: missoni for target throw blanket (so pretty!)
alex: tanooki suit
josh: new pair of jeans
pseudo brother- and sister-in-law: gift card to tractor supply co. (per their request)
pseudo mother-in-law: the kids are all pooling some money together to help her defray costs from an unexpected surgery
best friend 1: awesome cookbook
best friend 2: chenille blanket
best friend 3: sangria pitcher + secret sangria recipe
best friend 4: feathered headband, because she's one of the few people who can wear them successfully

probably none of that is very helpful, hehe. sorry.

Does Alex know you are giving him that? Because he'll soon find out.

Remote car starters aren't that expensive. I believe Best Buy has one for $150 with free installation if I'm not mistaken.

If I was Alex I would be pissed. I would really want a tanooki suit.

Getting my brother the DVD for Portishead's live Roseland show.
My Aunt is getting a Godiva chocolates gift basket.

Not sure about other people yet.

As for me, I'm kinda in Leah's spot: anything I really NEED, I got for myself, and stuff I would really want is usually too expensive to ask for as a gift. So, I just asked for Skyrim, Starcraft 2, and a new set of headphones/hand free headset for my phone.

agreed. i always tell my mom and josh's mom to load josh up on socks and boxers because his socks get ratty really easily and he outgrows his boxers practically once a year. he's been doing a lot of strength training and his big giant man-legs are too big around to fit in the size of boxers that fit his waist, so he ends up cutting notches in the legs rather than buying a different size. that seems wasteful! (waistful, ha.)

ANYWAY. i knocked out a bunch of christmas shopping yesterday and am satisfied with where i'm at i think. i'd like to get another little something-or-other for my dad, but we'll see.

Last year I bought three packs of socks from Target but realized I had four men to give to, so I decided to fix that by opening the socks, dividing them evenly in boxes, and as a bonus I let them know that all they had to do was put them on, no opening or cutting tags.

You honestly would have thought I bought them new cars. They have ALL mentioned the socks this year. Who would have thought?

want: gift cards to buy clothes. boring, I know, but I just got a promotion and want to have new clothes.

giving:

sister: forgave her debt for a laptop that i bought for her back in may since she has no credit due to bankruptcy and can't afford payments. also gave her some cash.

niece: she wanted that awful zombie monster candy maker thing, though she refused to eat the candy once it was made. she also wanted a pet elephant.. obviously that wasn't happening, so instead she got an elephant pillow pet.

dad: docking station for his laptop

mom: crockpot (she's convinced someone stole hers, though i'm pretty sure she just lost it)

jonathan: a lot. he's spoiled when it comes to christmas. I stockpile throughout the year as I think of things so that the sticker shock doesn't bonk me on the head come christmas.

couple friend: gift certificate for a personalized canvas photo since they just had a baby in february. also got the kiddo some toy blocks that match her nursery.

I usually get gifts for people at work, but since I work for the government and we have no money we got pretty much shafted on bonuses, so I didn't this year.

i've only seen his feet a few times. they're lovely and babylike because they rarely see outside a sock.
