SociCapism

Postby ClakarEQ » Fri Jan 27, 2012 4:50 pm

Per a post by spazz and for the why nots of it.

SociCapism is my new term for a hybrid of Socialism and Capitalism. While seemingly at odds with one another, could this concept work?

I'm not going to somehow define all elements of what I'm implying so please don't get into some nitty gritty detail request of some shit.

Socialist components would be things like, healthcare, infrastructure (roads, bridges, parks, etc), utilities, telecommunications (data, voice, etc), etc

Capitalist components would be a lot of what we already have, supply and demand, price set by the market, companies able to set price based on whatever they want, etc. However I would want more regulations on some of the entities we have today.

Maybe this has a "label" already but this form of GOV seems reasonable and a compromise.

At times when I look at Republicans I see, for me, an overwhelming drive around money. When I look a Dems' I see at times an overwhelming drive for "services". When I look around the globe, I don't see either of these but a middle ground of sorts.

So there, lets see where it goes

What did I say that brought this is on man ? Im too tired to take this on right now but perhaps the ball will get rolling and I can add more later.

I think the concept could work and to a certain degree I think we already have that hybrid system just with the wrong things or on a smaller scale.

yeah IMO we already seem to have something like this in place. we've got publicly-funded roads, police and fire departments, utilities, schools, and social net - but on the other side we have a semi-free market economy with profiteering and entrepreneurship going on (our OccuEd econ prof calls it "mercantilism")

the real problem with the hybrid system in place is that everyone wants to fucking change it

the left wants to push it more toward the socialist side, where commerce is controlled and monitored and the indigent are protected and cared for

the right wants to push it further into straight-up capitalism, fuck the poor, fuck public services, let me make my money and everything else can go to shit for all i care

*ahem* based on my rhetoric you can probably guess where i stand ;)

Our behemoth financial and lending institutions already have the best of both worlds - they enjoy the benefits of privatized gain under socialized risk. When they gamble and win, they reap the bulk of the benefits; when they gamble and lose, the rest of us pay for it. The government, in its wisdom, bails these institutions out, which reinforces their behavior so that the cycle can start all over again. Complete, self-contained, self-sustaining system. Who could ask for a better one? =P
