Don't apologize Leah, it's part of the debate and actually isn't derailing at all. I am 100% against religion having any place in government. Whether it be gay marriage or abortion, religion does not have a place in the governing body of a country built upon so many religions, cultures and ideals. The government needs not concern themselves with petty matters such as what a woman wants to do to her body, whether a boy wants to love another boy or what god may get pissed of because of it. The government has much MUCH bigger fish to fry.

Which leads me to some slight disagreement with you Leah. I will not decide to not vote for a candidate for that stance alone. If I felt wholeheartedly that a particular candidate had the best plan for fixing our economy, improving the education of our youth, or decreasing poverty, yet they were against abortions and gay marriage, I think I would vote for that candidate because those matters have a bigger impact on our country. It is obvious these candidates and the ones to come in the next 4, 8, 16 years are extremely flawed and far from perfect, so we must pick and choose our battles. I feel a little cold-hearted for saying it, but abortion and gay marriage simply aren't the most important crisis facing this country.

But don't fret, I'm not voting Romney.

that's totally fair, and a good point--i agree with you that there should be more important issues that make up your deciding factors. i am very glad that you're giving it so much serious thought (and i won't lie, i'm also very glad you're not voting for romney, haha).
