Re: Give me a history lesson - LoS/Old school/Uber people
I had a gigantic post typed up that explained the history of the early part of the server in clear detail. However, that post was deleted. So let me just point out some key details.
1. The ranger you were referring to Lyion was Anks. He was kicked out of LoS. He was not a founder of LoS, but was a founder of your first guild - Emerald Knights.
2. LoS was so dominant on this server because every single relevant high level player from Storm Reavers joined LoS after SR imploded. The only players of any relevance in the SR organization who didn't quit the game after SR imploded or didn't join LoS were Lyion, Aanowolf, Zsazsa, and Drolkrad. This dominance of the first wave of power players allowed LoS to keep the rest of the server from raiding big mobs right from the start. It was a head start that allowed the guild to continue dominating in Kunark which in turn allowed it to use its gear advantage to win out in Velious.

Actually, we (Euphoria) had the great bat phone... though it came way too late to matter. LoS forum access (me) through 2 or 3 accounts (IIRC). But as we proved, strategies are only as good as the execution (fail).

Re: Give me a history lesson - LoS/Old school/Uber people
how old LoS were you? they were classic...and they remember Mudcrush, Draed...Genjiro. They talk about Mudcrush being played by two different people. The asshole and the cool guy. They said you didnt even bother talking to Mudcrush if the asshole was online. They say it was hilarious with Genjiro's broken ass english yelling at Draed. And they lived just one town over from Polonious. I fact checked them made sure they weren't bullshittin when they claimed to be super old LoS.

Re: Give me a history lesson - LoS/Old school/Uber people
Vigna is a name I remembered, though basically before my time. Quervo, though, does not ring any bells, unless they were a different name back then.
From a post from Draed, the first people in LOS were:
Nagrakthor, Genjiro, Despie, Sengir, Hammyr, Mudcrush, Oniar, Trolie, Avslatar(Henric), Windy, Tashoka, Valia, trindle, hapt, muffy (Glubgawd, IIRC), Despie, Vendreahl, along with Saldor, Anks, Tolon and a couple others.
Nothing like "Quervo", though.
Tikker is absolutely right, too. Genjiro had perfect English. The person famous early on for broken english was Saldor. Later on, Laneser was known for that too, but that was at least Kunark, if not Velious. (when did the TW wave arrive? I forget)

Re: Give me a history lesson - LoS/Old school/Uber people
I remember Saldor as the standard by which other enchanters were measured.
One time he was slumming it in OS (Reets) with a few of us one time (helping out a new PAL friend of his, IIRC). I remember he was wearing a shiny VP robe that nobody else had. Seems like the puller agro'd the entire room, people are panicking, cleric is telling me to egress, Saldor says something like, "stop. stop. stop. wait, not problem." Charms 1 dude, keeps the others mezzed, even does melee damage while we're all wide-eyed hoping to not die. He made it look easy. We mopped up with no casualties and continued the cycle, totally unbroken. It was pretty awesome.
Sinah was the first LoS person I ever knew. He/she was uber talented at PVP. I saw a Manalope / Sinah fight at WC druid rings that went on for a while, made me realize how little I know about duels (and largely stayed out of them).
