Supposed to be mix of mmo and fps with a tv show paralleling the game world quests. It's from the same guys who made Rift so might be good. I got my beta invite for this weekend so I'll know more after I try it.

Re: Defiance
I've got a beta invite, also, but between GW2, Vanguard, and playing some more Skyrim with my limited playtime I'm not sure I'll bother. Let us know what you think, Ganzo.
I was fairly disappointed with Planetside 2.

Re: Defiance
First night impressions:
The game is a lot of fun.
It's a true FPS (need to learn to strife, roll, duck behind objects, strategies even against basic mobs) but they added all of the classic MMO parts to it (skill trees, levels, gear)
Enemies are smart, they team up to try to surround you, use objects to hide behind, pursue you, call in reinforcements
Bosses are tough you need strategies to take on basic mission bosses, the first boss in tutorial took me about 6 tries,
You can team up in groups or raids but they need to improve the ability to form groups
The vehicles are fun too, not like mounts in MMO's; they require different control and behave like cars in racing games; also terrain is not just there for show, you will crash into things and fall out of your vehicle
You can use xbox controller on PC to play this, going to buy 1 tomorrow and try

brinstar if you want a survival type MMO but don't mind it being zombies instead of STALKER you should check out The War Z or the less polished but deeper Day Z that's an unrelated Arma 2 mod

Re: Defiance
Beta 2 was only for this weekend, they have not sent out invites for 3 yet. Rift had 7 or 8 and I didn't get invite until 4th one, so hang on you might still get in for next round

The War Z mentioned above is so horrible that they refunded me my money for it on Steam.
It's that bad.

i'm having a lot more fun with dead island. war z was a good idea but it didn't take long to see how shitty it was
Re: Defiance
spent most of today grinding this game
it's okay. i like the overall concept, and the game mechanics are solid as hell, but it seems pretty underdeveloped on the RPG end. there are random "encounters" here and there (roadside ambush, for example) but literally everything i did was some variation of "kill everything" and "look at this thing my map led me to and hold E". also there seemed to be absolutely no reason to do any exploring, which is too bad because the environment looks great. arkfalls were cool, and i loved that they straight up give you a vehicle right off the bat.
single biggest thing i'd change right off the bat would be to add some kind of chat window. i know it's a shooter and you need as much screen space as possible but jeez - without a chat window it feels like a single player game in which you occasionally run into some really good bots. at times it really reminded me of the Borderlands series, except without teh funney ;\
final verdict: it's good, but not good enough

Re: Defiance
The Beta weekend was right before the Passover and I was too busy to play. I logged on on Friday for about 20 min, that was it.

Re: Defiance
Can't you guys find a fun secular version of the holiday that doesn't take to much time and involves buying gifts and some anthropomorphic creature?
My kids just finished an awesome 'Jesus died for our sins so you can have candy' egg hunt. It was really fun. Took about 20 minutes and my religious observances for the weekend are complete.

Re: Defiance
I'm far more interested in this TV show than this video game. TV Show seems to have a Terra Nova vibe, which I enjoyed although the writing was a tad weak.

This launches today. Since there is no sub, I'll prob nab it eventually. Looks fun, although I'm more interested in the TV show.

Re: Defiance
It has a cash shop. I'll probably nab it once it's on sale, but not this month. I have a free WOW week, been noodling around TERA, and when I feel like it I'm letting Dark Souls kill me.
