Crazy, we all starting posting here as angry teenagers and now we're all older angry parents.

When's your little one due, Leah?

Not all of us... My specific genetic line will die when I do.

I'm such a contrarian that it extended to a genetic level and my own genes were self-defeating.

Luckily, I feel genetically close enough (say 99.8%) to the rest of humanity that I'm not going to shed any tears over it... I'll just have to "carry on" vicariously through the rest of humanity's reproductive success.

I'll take it as a compliment. :)

But I think I'm a bit too self-focused for children, in all honesty -- that, and too lazy.

P.S. While I'm sure Carl had a broad diversity of interests, one of them probably wasn't muscle cars. And I'm nowhere near Sagan's class intellectually. I just overthink everything equally and try to make semi-intelligent comments on what I observe around me.

Congrats, Drem. First year was a fun time for me. Then they grow up, unfortunately ;)

The "not sleeping" is greatly exaggerated with most kids.

Those horror stories stem from a small portion of people who have kids who never sleep through the night until they're almost 2. After the breast feeding or every 2 hour feeding, it's a lot easier.

Something we agree with. My kids (3 of them) were all good sleepers. Maybe I was lucky, but our trick was consistency. Keep to a schedule. All my kids slept from 11pm to 5am with an occasional feeding at night. Sleep wasn't that big a problem. More so with the last since I had to watch two kids while the wife was nursing.

yeah he feeds for about 30-45 mins and passes out for four hours. so far so good. not really worried either way tho. my wife n i run opposite schedules, so someone will always be awake to watch while the other sleeps

how's your kid doin? gettin big now?

We run opposite schedules too, so it was easy for us once we got out of the hospital.

He's 18 months now. Walking, talking, and great. For being born 2 months early at 3lbs 10oz, he's completely normal. He's ahead of all developmental milestones they wanted us to keep track of, even.

We're teaching him sign language alongside English. It's way more rewarding and fun once you can interact with them like this and it feels like less of a really demanding pet.

They pick up on sign language really early, way before words are forming clearly.

My son asks for the things he wants with both words and sign language now, but he used to do it with sign language before he learned the words.

Milk

More

Please

Hungry

Thank you

Are all really easy for them to learn and not just mimic but actually know when to use them.
