Ok I have the weakest PC known to man so I'd like to know how good you guys have it. If you still play EQ, here's what you do:

From desktop, double click on the Eq icon to load the patcher. From there get your ass into the game as fast as you can. The zone you're logging into might affect it (at least it does on my weak ass system) so I used the PoK.

Time it from the point of double click to you actually being in the game.

For me..you ain't gonna believe this this shit: 18 minutes. =)
(thats with all models off, every single setting bare boned absolutely nothing but sound checked and other mem saving option checked.)

P.S.
This computer works fine for EVERYTHING else I use it for. I'll be goddamned if I am going to go out and blow over 1k dollars just so i can see all the UBER SPECIAL EFFECTS!

It doesn't affect my gameplay considering all I do is zone around and talk to people

bypass the patcher. It wastes your time unless you know you need to update.

I like the bypass the patcher idea. How do i do that? Is the one where you add something to the command line?

btw this comp used to be a toaster, >200 ram, 450 mhz, full of spyware. + I have a few models on.

Well man I must be doing something wrong. No spyware/adware/viruses, 700 mhz, 256 megs of ram, --ah but I bet you have a far superior video card. Mines an ATI 128. (el cheapo from hell)

on my crappy sony via, takes me two or three mins to completely login usually...on other pc, which is pretty new, takes less than a minute.

I dont remember how long it would take me with my old computer but. I'd say around 20 minutes...It took me 6 minutes+ to zone in any pop zone. half the time go LD an get kicked back to server screen. The other half i would zone...6 minutes later. It was random, some days i'd zone in 4 and some in 6. Old world i would zone in about 4 or 5. I've had times where nortons was running and i zoned in about 10. The comp was a serious piece of shit.

With all the models on it takes me 2-3 minutes from desktop to zone-in. Now on Silv's machine it takes 10-15 minutes.

it seriously takes people 10-15 minutes or more to get into EQ?

if it takes more than 20 seconds to zone anywhere that's a longtime. to login, including the patcher it might take 2 minutes to get in.

It's an old computer. Well, old by computer standards. It was fine when I first started playing EQ, hardly any lag with all spell effects on etc. As time went on, I had to buy the pos video card because the onboard video couldn't handle luclin when it came out, then shit really got tougher with PoP, etc etc.

I figured people had it better but damn, not -that- much better. :lol:

So would a better video card make that big of an impact on this particular aspect then?

Say a 700 mhz machine with 256 megs of ram and a 256 meg video card.
