Go into control panel > administrative tools > services

Find messenger, and put it on disabled.

tried both things, it pops back up everytime I open Outlook. This is not a simple fix, I have spent over three hours trying different ways to remove.

Why do I want it removed? whatever was done when setup, my sister put in her login info. So I get her business' IMs at my office all day, everyday. First while working, I hate things popping up on my already slow machine (has crashed me twice). Second, she needs the info these people are sending, and I do not have the time to call her everytime it pops up. I have uninstalled, disabled it, logged her out and unchecked the box that remembers her info, but everytime I open my work email , its back.

If she has to use instant messenging, have her check out trillian...fuckin love it.

Also, there should be an option inside ms mess that lets you control when it opens, but you have to sign on to get to it I believe.

OK try this..click start, run, services.msc and see if you can crush it. Also, do a search on your harddrive for MSN or Messenger and start plinking them.

Sorry I can't be of more help. =\

Try Hijack This. Sounds like you have a hijacked messenger.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

its actually the way Windows works sometimes.

Check the accounts setup in Outlook, if any are a hotmail account, remove it. Do as everybody suggested above, delete Messenger from your system.

Honestly though, thats Microsoft and their faggot .Net passport for you.

You might be able to change the default instant messenger program from Messenger to something like AIM or Yahoo and deal with it that way. Personally I like setting mine as Yahoo because it never pops up anything on me.

Yeah and when you try closing their shit they make it sound like it will be the end of the world for your other programs.

Go under Outlook express under tools/options/messenger and unclick (run messenger on outlook startup). Should become default for Outlook also.
