Counter Strike:Source Beta

Post by xKALECx »

Anyone else playing the new CS on the Source engine? Looks pretty damn spectacular. The shadowing on opponents now coming around boxes etc.. adds a new feel. Was never a huge CS'er in the past, but I am enjoying the hell out if the new one.

Graphics are a lot more fluid with rag doll textures and amazing reflection/fog/shadowing. Only one map on beta servers atm, but more to come before the official release. Any of you Condition Zero owners can download the new client for free.

I expect Half Life to be pretty damn amazing if they can get the story right.

Gave it a spin last night on a server with 30-40 players, and had quite a bit of fun. One thing I found a bit odd was even though my video stress test was about 92-95 fps, it was still a bit jerky in game for some reason.

As much as I like Counter-Strike, one of the things that turned me off in particular was the amount of philistines this game attracts. Due to the limited availability of the beta, however, I saw that there was a lack of "kewl dewds" online, and found myself surrounded by players who were purely interested in having fun.

I heard something a week or so ago about seventeen days to gold (at the time), doubt it has much truth to it, but apparently one of the developers made the comment.

I saw they were putting something up on Steam tomorrow or something but I didn't really know what they were talking about.

the thing on steam is the CS source beta that this thread is about i think.

since it's pretty much an open beta to anyone with CS condition zero(afaik), i'd guess it's getting extremely close to release.

HL/2 pre-load will begin tomorrow. It was ready yesterday, but we decided to use the bandwidth to get out the VST first since I get pelted with zillions of questions from people asking how their PC will run Half-Life 2.

Now that the CS: Source Beta has become available to CS:CZ and ATI voucher owners, Shacknews has had word from Erik Johnson confirming the delay of the HL2 preload till next Monday.

We're going to push the start of the preload back until this coming Monday. The main reason was to get out the release (that just happened) to the CS: Source Beta. -Erik

HL2 was set to preload textures, audio and other various things today, to reduce bandwidth usage when the game goes gold.

Check out Erik Johnson's post over at Shacknews.

Ah I understand now. Apparently this means they're very close to going gold.
