Mark Cuban's answer to US Basketball

Where everyone discusses football, and two dorks try to pretend people actually like the NBA and spam what should be in PMs.

I do like any kind of car racing. People don't understand how difficult it is until they try it. NASCAR is easy compared to other forms of racing but it's still much tougher than anyone thinks and yeah it can be boring to watch sometimes.

There are a lot of out of shape baseball players. But saying one is more athletic is stupid. To be successful at basketball I do think you have to be more physically fit, anyways. They're both athletic, let's leave it at that.

If they removed all wrecks from ever being able to happen or better yet treated the wrecks like streakers on the ball field (no attention no airplay etc) then no one would watch NASCAR.

Sure basketball requires athleticism, that wasn't the original argument though.

Only compared to baseball players.

Have you ever watched a baseball game? WTF it's basically NASCAR with fat people running around in circles instead of cars. Plus all those athletes are roid heads. At least the only drugs basketball players take is weed.

Plus we got Wilt, the most pimp Athlete of all time.

Yes and why do you find this so hard to believe? There are guys I know a lot shorter than me who can/could dunk. I'm 6 foot 4 and have long arms, I hardly have to jump to touch the rim...what's the big deal?

You don't strike me as an athlete. People I knew who could dunk were either freakishly tall, which I don't think you are, or very good athletes, which I didnt think you were.

Maybe you're a little bit of both.

I'm 6"2' never dunked on a 10 footer, well I've dunked by some peoples stantards. But I don't consider it a pinacle of athleticism, just surprises me.

And I could own you on any court np.

I'm sure you could beat me in basketball. I'm good under the hoop but my outside shot is only decent.

I played football, basketball, baseball, golf, did track when I was in junior high was on NASTAR team for skiing...

The only sport I was "very good" at was golf. Although I didn't "suck" at any of the other sports. Just because I look retarded in 1 picture you saw of me doesn't mean I'm not athletic /boggle

I thought you were taller Taxx... always thought like 6'6" or so.

The answer to the debate can be answered by this question...

The average 7 year old american male is better at which sport, Basketball or Baseball?

Why Baseball is better than Basketball

By Thomas Boswell

I love basketball (even play it twice a week), but several trends have compromised my ability to sustain my love for watching the pro game.

The baseball season has more games, which makes the regular season long, but more significant.

Less playoff teams in baseball. Basketball is like hockey.

Baseball is played in the summer. (Yeah, I know. Spring and Fall too.)

No clock in baseball. You can be down 50-1 and still have time to catch up (however unlikely it is)

Baseball has more strategy and situations. (Dispute this and you’ll be deluged with facts, my friends.)

The slam dunk is the most overrated physical act in all of sports. What’s so tough about a 6’10" guy (or 6’3" for that matter) dunking a basketball?

The three-point line. Lets pull up for a "three" instead of a layup. Now THAT is playing the percentages, isn’t it?

Trash talking. When Matt Williams (thirdbaseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks) makes a diving stab, he gets up, brushes off the dirt, and goes back to his position; not a peep or grin out of him. NBA players could learn from this guy.

Minor leagues. The NBA needs one (reasons outlined in a previous column). Besides, riding those dusty buses from jerkwater town to jerkwater town would teach these kids a lesson.

A 19-year old in baseball is a grave exception; in the NBA, it might become the norm.

In baseball, to reach the big leagues, fundamentals are required. In the NBA, they’re optional.

The smells of baseball ballparks (outdoor ones only). Too many to count, but put hot dogs and freshly-mown fields at the top of that list.

Baseball’s storied history, although not without controversy, is unmatched.

Your study is flawed then based on baseball being more popular among hispanic and caucasian children. Of course the answer will be baseball.

It has nothing to do with skill, and everything to do with what their parents wanting them to play.

This doesn't have any bearing on the skill (coordination and talent) required at the professional level.

That would be like me saying "which is better, playing with clay or piloting a plane? Oh yeah! What can kids do at age 7 better? HUH? HUH? That's what i thought beeeotch!"

The fact is, 'even' a 7-year old could pick up a bat and a ball and play at a higher level than a kid could with a basketball. A 20 year old that has never seen either sport could probably play baseball better than basketball. A 70 year old could... etc.

Skill and coordination.

I'm not comparing professionals to 7-year olds (pilots to children), I'm comparing a 7-year old to another 7-year old. It's easier for kids that only recently started wiping their own ass... it's easier at the professional level.

Sure it is. That's why high schoolers can jump onto an NBA b-ball court en masse and not so many can start for the MLB teams even with its expansion saturation and thinning of talent.

Please. The high-schoolers that made it in the NBA did it on pure talent. Good for them. What does that have to do with baseball? If I was 17 and I could hit like Bonds, and pitch like Johnson do you really think any team would tell me to sit in the minors for a few years?

More analogies...

Let's say that I've never EVER EVER seen or played either sport in my life. I'm all of the sudden thrown into a college-level game of both baseball and basketball. I'm a well coordinated, athletic 20 year-old and get to watch both games for one hour.

All I have to do is hit ONE ball with my baseball bat, or score ONE basket with my basketball. We'll say that I have less than 1% chance of successfully connecting my bat to the ball on a purely lucky hit. I hit a single and sent a runner in off third. Go me, I contributed.

Back to basketball. I have to score a basket. What are my chances of dribbling through the defense and penetrating far enough to score 1 shot? What are my chances of making an outside shot with a 6'7" guard in front of me? What probability do I have to even handle the ball well enough to keep possession of it?

Skill and coordination. Basketball takes much more than baseball. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it =p.
