Your fan is dirty.

Get some compressed air and clean it.

Generally, HDs won't quit making noises when you smack it.

Not saying that isn't the problem....would try cleaning the fans first tho.

oh btw, could be just the case has rattled / vibrated enough to cause this noise and the punch shakes things up

Likely your CPU fan.

If your hard drive is making that noise, backup what you need and expect it to crash VERY soon.

Likely your CPU fan

More likely a case fan. I've never heard a CPU fan (when going bad) outside of a case unless the side was off. 99 percent of the time it is a case fan going bad or just in need of cleaning.

Its the fan in the power supply, not a case fan(two different things for some). Either that or your vid card fan... I heard mine when it started going out.

The bearings in the fan of my old GeForce2 got sloppy and it started doing the exact same thing. I just pulled the fan off and ran it until it fried.

It could be a wire touching a fan also~

Open your case up and use your ears  You will find the problem.

Go into bios and check off the box that wont let your machine boot up if the cpu fan isnt on. That could save you some RL PP.

ok turns out it was the little fan on the chipset hehe

so the mobo is toast, on a friend's comp ordering a new one

which is okay i guess, i've needed a new one for a while

we swapped video cards, so i know that's still working (fucking better be, i bought it in march)

only thing i'm upset about is now i have to buy DDR ram because the board i want won't take the pc133 stuff ;\

here's another question though:

i'm running:
soundblaster audigy platinum (with the front bay thingy)
two hard drives
CDRW drive
geforce 5700 ultra
network card
mobo + CPU
and soon a PCI card for an aardvark directpro q10

is a 250w power supply adequate to power all that shit? should i be worried about getting a new case too? will there be "brownouts" that could cause damage?

The new DDR ram is fairly inexpensive, and usually staples runs pretty good sales on it.

My computers fan was making noise and I hit it and it never made noise again... but then the motherboard's BIOS fried and now I can't use that computer.

I got pissed at my cdrom for not reading a disc... I started beating on the top of the computer in rage and I heard a godawful grinding sound.. the disk had one lovely scratch run across the outside rim, killing it.

h8 that computer, goddamn drive, argh

ok so if you guys are done blogging, can someone answer my question now

is a 250w power supply enough to drive all that or would i risk further damaging other components for lack of adequate juice?

PS new mobo arrives thursday :boots:

Depends mainly on your processor, and from there it scales down depending on the rest of your components.

What processor do you have?

250w name brand is usually better than a 400w shit brand. Trust me on that one.
