First of all... if you don't understand the spell skills well enough to post a clear, concise question regarding this "issue" you have, then you need to NOT be playing a character that you have NO FUCKING CLUE about.

Now - to answer your question... the skill you need to check for is Channeling. I assume you know how to check what the character's current skill level is.

There is NO WAY in hell that a shaman could get to 65 without have a channeling skill at least in the mid-100s - if not capped.

My guess is that you just fucking suck.

I don't understand. Are you saying he never trained channelling? Or does it give the message like he should continue to cast and he doesn't finish the spell. If it's the latter, its a bug

Channeling is not trained, its an automatic skill at level 1.

I think that, for priests, you start learning Channelling at level 4. But, it isn't "trained" in the sense that you don't have to go to your trainer and spend a point in it. You automatically start learning it at that level. This is different from Meditate, for instance, where you do have to spend a point with the trainer in order to start learning it at level 8.

uhh... i think kilaar is trying to say perhaps his channelling has nothing to do with it, he SHOULD channel through the hit but instead of completing the spell when he gets the successful channeling message "you regain your concentration and continue casting your spell", he still ends up getting interrupted, every time. I've had that happen to me once or twice before on some of my stupid level 30 twinks, but never EVERY time like he's saying, perhaps someone else has some real insight like he asked?

I do not recall ever regaining my concentration on my cleric, druid, shaman, necro, pally or SK, you sure its not just NPCs that get that message?

Then again, maybe I did, I never look at the text box when I am playing.

If you are getting the message that you regained and continued casting then yes the spell should complete. Obviously I've been interupted before, but never have I noticed after a regain the spell not firing. I do tend to watch my text window... got in the habit back when you had to have your book open to med, and all you could see was the book, GUI, and text box.

That being said it doesn't sound like you have a character development issue (channeling or defense). What you may have though is a sever to client lag issue. I've noticed some very wierd things happening since the DX9 patch where spells are concerned. Keep in mind I'm on a broadband connection, with a system that at a minimum meets all game requirements (and in most if not all casses better), and I'm still getting lag.

From what I understand if the server or the client decides you have died... you die regardless of the outcome on the other side. (anyone ever gotten the message about feeling bogus?) and I'm wondering if the same holds true for spell interupts and channel throughs. Possibly the server or client decided you channel through, so you get the message, but the other decides you did not... and so the negative effect of the two outcomes takes precidence.

If this is the case, and on either the server or the client you are getting interupted then the normal reasons, and preventions for interupts might help. Make sure the character has maxed channeling and defense. Also for some reason turning left or right seems to help, especially if you just finished moving. The game checks the current /loc when you start a spell. If at spell completion you are not at the same /loc there is a check made for interupt. If by chance you have moved during the spell casting, but end up back at the exact same loc a check for interupt is never made.
I suspect that rotating for some reason updates your /loc in higher lag situations, but for whatever reason turning left or right during casting or just after stopping from running does seem to help.

I would find it unlikely that the character itself is bugged some how... frankly because if this were possible you would think that other instances of this would crop up... possibly with positive benefits... lol dunno maybe this is the case... wonder how many people would /petition I can cast spells while running and it's just not right. If you have access to another computer, you might try running the character on a different machine and see if you get the same problem. It might be something corrupted client side, so I would say maybe a fresh install/patch on a different machine.

Oh and please for the love of god, If you've never played a 65 shaman before, do some homework and research the class a bit. Level 65 pickup groups are not the place for you to learn basics on how to group/group with your class.

      4. I r PoWa ~!~

No - actually - you suck - you self-admitedly can't even cast through being hit.

The fact that the character is 65 pretty much tells me that this problem hasn't existed for 5 years... not for a shaman at least. But go ahead and petition - so that the GMs can tell you that you're an idiot, as well.

Anyone that has a lvl 65 and 330+ days played would know how stupid the original question is.

      are i just fux0red

      Kilaar

his character DOESN'T have the ability to cast thru "you have regained concentration" or whatever it says when you cast thru when mob hit you.

Sorry this wasn't very clear on whether or not the character actually got the cast through message.

      Thraksor
uhh... i think kilaar is trying to say perhaps his channelling has nothing to do with it, he SHOULD channel through the hit but instead of completing the spell when he gets the successful channeling message "you regain your concentration and continue casting your spell", he still ends up getting interrupted, every time.

      Kilaar
All READ thraksors post he knows Exactly what im talking about.

Okay so you are getting the message, but the spell isn't firing.

      Kilaar
And NO i have NEVER seen the statement you have regained concentration, he NEVER has and he has NEVER been hit and landed a cast.

Okay so you don't get the message, and are interupted. Three posts to finally get down to that.

      Kilaar
I know i didn't exactly phrase the question perfectly

Nope you phrased it pretty piss poor

      Kilaar
but its kinda hard to explain.

      No it's not.
The character never regains concentration and continues casting, the character is interupted every single time without exception, and never gets a message otherwise.

Now either one of two things is taking place here. Either this particular shaman for some unknown reason is suffering from a bug that no one has ever heard of and it is unique to this character... not very likely. Or this character adheres to the same standards that every other caster in the game does and the behavior exibited indicates a lack of skill in either channeling, defense or both much more likely.

      You asked:
Has this happened to anyone else ? What can be done ?

You got an answer, check the character skills, but obviously this isn't the answer you expected or even wanted to hear so why ask the question? You think that somehow this character is special or unique, and don't want to hear otherwise. When someone says (paraphrased) that yes people have had this problem and here is the solution, you turn around and tell them no this has to be a game bug that the GM's can fix. And make it clear this is the only answer that you will accept.... I think someone here road a short bus to school, but it definetly wasn't Ugzug.

      Kilaar
And for those that know me im a pretty f@#$%$# decent enchanter.

Did you ever consider that you actually suck and that those who know you suck to... and so in comparison to each other you are all "decent"?
I've never met you in game so maybe you are decent at playing an enchanter. Honestly in reading your posts the though the realization came to me that I've never heard anyone say "I suck at this game", everyone thinks they play well... well not everyone I guess you think you mearly play decent. This sure seems to indicate to me that deep down you know you suck, wouldn't feel right about saying you play well, wouldn't feel good about saying you suck... so you hit the middle of the road and say you play decent.

      1. I have played shaman before

I noticed that you didn't specify that it was a level 65 shaman that you played... makes me wonder

      3. If you played any character to 65 and have 330 + Days played you should just about be able to play any class and be decent at it.

lol there's that word "decent" again, at first I was inclined to disagree with this... until I thought of the translation:

If you played any character to 65 and 330 + Days played you should almost but not quite(ie just about) be able to suck at it.

      Or are i just fux0red.

Oh hell yea, your way way beyond fux0red.

I have a lvl 38 shaman and I must say I enjoy playing him. Yeah I know my main is a warrior but you know I need to be a caster to appreciate them a bit more so I made a shaman. Now I have a necro and play him regularly. Well what I am getting at is I see what you are saying, at lvl 38 I get hit and am still able to cast some of the time and your special shaman isn't able to which means that it doesn't effect my warrior when it he gets hit so I am gonna ask the GM if he will fix it for me.

[Tues Mar 30 12:43:44 2004] You regain your concentration and continue your casting.

That's how it'll look if you channel through a slight movement when you cast. You won't channel through a bash / warrior kick / stun but normal hits you should be able to often. Just make sure your channeling skill is 200+.
