Best All-Around player in NBA History?

Probably the Big O or Magic but this guy has always gotten my vote.

Oscar Robertson. A triple double for the whole season, before that was even something to shoot for. Wow.

Yeah... Grant Hill is a totally sad story because he's such a nice guy. Everyone likes him. If AI was injured 60% of his career, it wouldn't be so sad... but Hill is an amazing person. He *could have* been the 'best' in the league... I truly believe that. When Michael Jordon 'really' retired (meaning, he retired from the Bulls), I was saying that Hill was the closest thing... the best candidate to fill the shoes. He's got so much skill but... god damn that ankle is fucked up. I would LOVE to see him back... a whole season... he's amazing.

All Around is a tough one, since it's the game is more a sum of parts. You mean passing, shooting, defense, rebounding? For me that'd be Jordan as he could pretty much do it all. Magic and Bird also awesome all around players, and any of those three could be argued. I'd pick Jordan simply because he didn't have an Abdul Jabbar or Kevin McHale opposite him.

If you asked me best impact player period, I'd say Wilt Chamberlain. He was a force on the floor.

Right now I'd say Kevin Garnett is best 'all around' player.

I like Duncan more as a person, but right now I think KG > TD.

Timmy was injured a bit of last year but he dominated KG every other year since he came in the league. KG 'barely' beat Duncan even though Duncan lost like... 12 games.

I'm gonna side with Vonk on this one. Timmy is the best forward in the league right now.

What I meant by All-Around was exactly what you said, passing, pall-handing defence, rebound, postup game.

I tried to watch all Hill's games last year(not too hard) and he was still amazing.

He doesnt get as many pts as he used to but watching him run up the court with his size and frame reminded me a lot of magic.

Maybe LeBron can fill his shoes. We will see.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Wilt Chamberlain. He only averaged what, 50ppg for an entire season? He was an oustanding defender, had insane rpg numbers, and even was a decent passer.

I think all questions of "best ever" start and end with him.

For all around I'd say Magic...there was nobody more respected by his teammates than this guy, the Lakers could be down by 30 and this guy could get their spirits up and pull out the win.

Chamberlain had very little D. He was easily the most DOMINATING player... but Oscar Robertson did it all...

Pippen had some nice stats for about 6 years, 20 ppg, 7 apg, 7 rpg, 2 steals per game. Decent all around for those years, nice defender.

Pippin could have been so much better without Jordan stealing the spotlight. If Pippin were on any other team he would have been right up there with the greatest. I just don't like him because he looks like a fucking monkey.

He was good for a white guy, but not top 10. Pete Maravich, John Wooden, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Bob Cousy...all better than Bird.

Kevin McHale, but they played together, and McHale was good because of Bird, so I'd probably agree. Although Stockton would be up there.

You're too young to remember Bird playing the game. He was an incredible force.

I'd put him in a tie with Magic and Jordan for greatest all around player ever. Moreso Bird and Magic because they made everyone around them that much better. That's something Jordan didn't do throughout his career.

You'd actually have to have watched him play in the 80s. He was amazing.

He's arguably the best forward to have ever played the game, and top 5 ever, black or white.

Bah, I watched him all the time in the 80's. Perhaps it was because I liked the Lakers when I was young, who knows. I do watch those old games on ESPN classis a lot though.
