New Hardrive HELP

Postby Malluas » Sat Oct 02, 2004 11:02 am

ok this is the prob.. i have been messin with the jumper configs to let the comp know whether its a slave or master.

80gig HD has XP loaded it on it with a 4gig partition already (which i need to change but i need to get it to load first)

I think i got it to recognize it but then the comp told me i had too MUCH memory.

So i messed around wth the Ram chips (wasn't sure what too much mem meant whether its the 80gigs of the new HD or the ram)

now the computer turns on the 80gig loads but the computer has the orange light of a SLEEP MODE on same with the monitor.

Any thoughts?

My old 40gig is crapping out so i would love to get this 80gig one in there and transfer my shit from the 40 to it somehow.

really need help

Are you sure you have the correct connection on your IDE strip? Are you positive that you have the jumpers set correctly?

I don't understand, do you have both the 40 gig and the 80 gig installed in your machine? Which one is master which one is slave? Triple check you have the drive you want as master, set to master (and that it is connected to the 'slave' section on your IDE strip) and the same for the slave.

Well it's going into sleep mode because none of the drives are connected correctly...

It shouldn't be secondary master, it should be slave.

If you have an instruction book that came with both hard drive then use that. I'm not exactly sure what you're doing to both drives because you are being very vague.

Check your pins...you may have mushed a couple switching things around.

You're not missing a pin. Did your HD come with a new IDE cable and if so did you switch it for the one in your case?

If it did and you didn't, do so. (Wow...that's a confusing sentence. If you can't follow it let me know.)
