I recently 'acquired' a vid in this format but can't get Real Player to play it. Any suggestions?

Yeah, use Windows Media player.

I would if I didn't get some stupid error every time I use Media Player

Theres a whole shitload of programs out there that will play MPEG's

Just run a search :)
