New Engine and Graphics cards
I'm currently deployed to the desert so haven't been able to keep up on EQ for the last month or so. So I'm scanning through a few EQ websites and it looks like the new graphics engine went live? Did it? Does it suck or is there no discernable difference? I'm guessing since I can't find a OMG THE NEW ENGINE ROXXORS MY BOXXOS post anywhere that it isn't much different... So how is it?
Secondly, When I get home I'm getting rid of my GF4 4800ti and buying a new Video card. Can someone, preferably people who have actually used them, give me an honest opinion on the Radeon 9800 Ultra pro verses the G-Force FX 5950 Ultra?
I've always had better luck with G-Force cards myself but I've been hearing a lot of good things about the radeon 9800. Mostly from people who wish they had one of course...

SoE has said they will add a few new models, where did you get the idea there is a complete graphics overhaul in progress?
if they made eq have good graphics again, why would anyone buy EQ2?
On EQlive they had screenshots of totally revamped zones, character models, ground and sky, to me thats pretty much a complete engine upgrade other than mob models ><
I have both
I have both the 9800 and the 5900. I have the say that I would stick with 9800 unless you were planning on playing under linux. If you want to play under linux the 9800 sucks because the drivers are written very poorly. On the other hand, nvidia's drivers are sucking monkey nuts for EQ right now. If you're having problems make sure you downgrade your drivers, the latest nvidia drivers are pure shit.

Here is one very annoying thing I noticed since DX9 upgrade. I now see my character`s back poping in the screen whenever I ride a drogmor on first person view.
I only have nvidia ti4200 video card but this was not happening before the DX9 patch.

I would have to agree with Aurind. I also have the 5900, the 5600 and the ATI 9800 AIW and the 9800 is the king.
The wild thing is the 5600 has less lag at raids then my 5900. The extra $80 I spent makes me cry~

alright i read the article, but i can tell you the biggest change i've noticed in terms of actual gameplay is this:
--Players running through zones now get stuck on even small objects at random, sometimes for extended periods, and sometimes have a hard time getting out
-- Mobs now warp even more than they used to
--Players will fall through the world more often at random for 20k or get warped to the inzone
-- most mobs are now impossible to reverse pin
Collision System: all new code
-- Faster in many ways
-- Numerous bugs in old system eliminated
-- Client & server share the exact collision code now
-- Line of sight tests in all zones should now be possible without substantial CPU penalty
-- Improved targetting

Thought all that stuff was still incoming.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.
