Durability
Item durability is now in the game. Item durability is an important aspect of World of Warcraft that will work to stabilize the economy, decrease inflation specifically in the high end game, and in general keep prices of player sold items lower than normally would occur without such a feature. Durability should also add additional depth to the game since players will have more variety in their items and more abilities will be added over time to interact with durability. Item durability is different from item decay in that players will never lose items through item durability.

That is bullshit.

edit: but I want to complete my berserker stance stuff tonight I think.

Kizzy and I were talking about this before work and I've come to the conclusion that it can be good if it is done right. The only problem I see is that melee classes are going to have to fix their weapons MUCH more. WTF do you ever see a mage meleeing?

This is a good money sink and hopefully we won't see players walking around with 1million plat like in EQ. The only problem I see is that most players level 1-to about 30ish are always having problems coming up with enough money to pay for spells. Now players are expected to play for spells AND weapon fixing. So in the end...the high levels will be rich with nothing to spend money on and the low levels will be poor and poorly equipped because they can't afford to buy better equipment.

Sounds like the same thing that's in DAoC.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

I am going to be attacked a far greater amount than anybody else in my groups. I don't kite, I don't kill from a distance. That is bullshit. They pretty much are saying that warriors have to pay x amount to be viable tanks and if you get better gear, you are going to have to pay even more to keep it maintained. Frankly, let people wander around with 1 million gold, I don't give a shit. This is enough to make me not want to play the game upon release, I didn't want to play Diablo again.

At the rate this patch is downloading, I'll be online in about three days; so I'll see you then, unless conditions change drastically.
I'll just put some cliches here and everyone will be happy.

Random song lyrics: "Look to the the stars, and let hope burn in your eyes. And we'll love, and we'll hope, and we'll die. All to no avail, all to no avail!"

Random quote from someone else on board: "I also...like...to play with faggots..." -- Taxx (fun with elipses)

Every character name I've ever played in a video game ever: Jack(uup)/Klatu/Silus/Dosi/Voeda/UnhappyFish

I like the idea of durability... I really do...

however, I can totally see Aten's argument here. There really should be some sort of balance... classes that 'tank' should have reduced cost, extremely high max durability... or a form of self-repair ala warriors in diablo 1.

I'm going to stick with it for a while, see if I get any seeds or fast connections. I really like the way Blizzard took a technology that works, like bitTorrent, and completely destroyed it by adding proprietary technology. Stupid MIT license, welcome to corporate America.

I've learned through this beta not to fly off the handle just by reading patch notes. I get pissed when reading the patch notes and then actually play the game. For the most part it is better. I really think Blizz will do something with this item thing that will balance it fairly.

And if you haven't read the raid article that Tigole wrote, go do it now. After reading it, how can you NOT be excited for raiding content? Now I just hope they can follow through.

Oh, I misread your post about an article, thought it was going to be on the item decay.

Like I said earlier, I don't want to play Diablo again. Item decay was the most annoying part of that game, even if it was fast and easy to take care of. It already takes me on average an hour to take care of business when I go to town, I have no clue how long it will take now that I have to repair all of my fucking gear every time. Most likely it won't be a fast process. In fact, I can almost guarantee it will take a considerable amount of time(read: 5+ minutes) to repair weapons & armor.

That makes me ecstatic. To waste another 5 minutes to be able to actually play the game.

Well, I came back from working out and stuff and it's at 75% now, so maybe I will be playing some time this week after all.

I tested the durability out.

I am level 35.

My chest has 100 durability & my legs have 75 durability.

Fought a level 8 crocodile thingy on the river between Durotar & The Barrens and a level 9 Zhevra.

The crocodile died before it had a chance to hit me.

The Zhevra hit me 3 times, first time for 5 then 7 and then 6 damage.

Chest @ 98 / 100 durability
Legs @ 73 / 75 durability

Went out, did a small quest invovling killing a couple humans.

Only the last one was exp giving, the rest died almost instantly.
Lost around 100 hp total, not sure how much I was hit.

Result:

Shoulders @ 43 / 45
Helm @ 64 / 65

Went to town. Repairs were instant at the first vendor I found. Cost me like 1.5s.

Conclusions:

It seems as though it is a random chance to lose durability based soley upon getting hit in combat regardless of how hard or what level the mob is attacking.

Frankly, I have no intent of playing this game any further at this stage as I have been forced to return to towns in order to repair my armor. This prohibits me from fighting in instances for any duration of time, let alone grinding out experience in secluded locations.

How I would improve this?

Change the way items decay.
Critical strikes = 10% chance to lose chest/leg durability.
Stun = 25% chance to lose helm/shoulder durability.
Enemy Parries or blocks = 10% chance to lose weapon durability.
You Parry = 5% chance to lose weapon durability
You Block = 10% chance to lose shield/wrist durability
I'm not sure where to incorporate losing foot durability. Maybe 25% chance on getting snared/netted/rooted?

in all other situations, 1/10th of a percent chance of losing durability.

In addition to this, raise the price required to repair. For example, an item sells to a vendor for 5g, it has 100 durability. It should cost something around 5s per durability to be repaired.

I am thinking that tank gear will be more durable theann say DPS gear. I would also think the nier the item the more durable. Give it a chance hun.

I gave it a chance, those are the results. The game has lost the fun factor for me with this patch. I have no intention of going back to town every 30-45 minutes to repair my armor.
