We can go with an offline draft... which gives us more control over the players we choose. It would basically be in a thread format...

Let's say the order of the draft was like...

Silv
Lyion
Zan
Arlos
Malluas
Vonkaar

Silv would make a post in the thread saying, "Kevin Garnett"
Then Lyion would post saying, "Tim Duncan"
Zan would reply with something stupid like, "Chris Bosch"
Arlos would post saying, "Shaquille O'neil"
Malluas would say, "Elton Brand"
Vonkaar would say, "DIRK"

Then, it would go back to Silv...

It cycles until everyone has their rosters complete. I would have the top post in the thread edited with the picks. Lyion could help me out with the edits for that... hell, I might make Zan a temporary Sports mod to help keep it edited and up-to-date. Tomorrow is Saturday and would be a good day to do this (for most people).

I could make another rule where if someone doesn't respond with their pick within 15-30 minutes of their turn being called, they would get a pick from the Yahoo default list (which is pretty good) based on which players remains from the list. They get the best available player if they have the roster spot open, otherwise they get the next best until a roster spot is filled... meaning, if Silvestra has Shaq and Nesterovic for her centers and she misses her pick and the best person on the default list is another center, that player would be skipped to the next player who might be a forward, for which she has a roster spot open.

This would give everyone great control over their initial team, it would be a lot of fun and even the absent people would still end up with a nice team.

The other option is to use the Yahoo auto-draft feature. This basically follows a similar automated concept... you don't get to see who gets who... you just build your draft list (I would like the players in THIS order... KG, Tim, Shaq, Kobe, Dirk, Elton... etc) and the system cycles through the list automatically. So... I hit 'okay' and everyone has their team... not much control if you ask me.

Sooo... which shall it be? Auto-draft or the thread-style? The decision will be made at 11pm tonight. Draft will start at 10am tomorrow morning one way or another.

I voted 'thread style' because I think it would be more fun. I'll be home all day tomorrow anyway... so... I could monitor the draft as it goes.

Well, I know enough to probably get the first few names, I am not savvy enough with current basketball to get the good sleeper picks. So, while I may well vote for thread based, but only do a few rounds.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... very good point...

I think a lot of the league might feel the same...

that might be enough to make the auto-pick system way preferable.

Unless anyone has anything to say in support of the thread-style draft (in the next 5 minutes), I'm going to go with the auto-draft. Draft will start at MIDNIGHT TONIGHT, so... edit your draft list if you want! Go go go!

When we make our own draft list, can we just move 3-4 people over there that we want in order at the top of the draft, and just leave the default alone, or do we need to move the whole thing over?

You can put your top 5... if it's a VERY specific set, you might get all of them...

so...

If my list said,
Dirk
Michael Finley
Steve Nash
Al Harrington
Nene

And each pass through the list, people skipped over those people, I would get them FIRST... but if, on someone else turn, they had one of my players next-in-line (Steve Nash for example), my next pick would be Al Harrington. If Seve, Al and Nene were already picked before my 3rd pick, my 'custom' list would be over and it would go back to the default list.

And I want to draft either way.

In yahoo you can just have a live draft, anyone who doesnt have a draft order or who isnt at the draft just gets auto-drafted by Yahoos pre-set draft order.

Thats the best way, those who WANT to draft themselves can, those who want to do a draft order can, and those who just want people who know more about basketball then them to pick can just let yahoo do it.
