Completely hypothetical...

Whatsay someone had an E Machine (i know) with 512mb RAM & 2.8 GHz & a Gforce4. And this person for some reason went out and got an EQII starter kit, but this kit told him "Hey, you only got 447mb of RAM, oh ya, and [texture units 2<4] and [pixel shader version 0.000 < v.1x0101]" or something along the lines. And this guy is sure he has 512mb of RAM, but gets lost in the conversation regarding pixel shading and texture units.

If this happened to someone, what would you reccommend other than destroying the emachine and buying some expensive lug? Any help much appreciated.

Upgrades are always feasible, figuring out why it's telling me I have 477mb of RAM (and that other stuff) is currently unfeasible. I have the bare minimum requirements other than my ram I think.

The ram is due to your operating system reserving some for itself.

Its not a big deal, pretty much every OS does that. Get another 512 or something and be happy.

As far as the shaders message, I'd check your video card settings and probably restore to default. Get the latest firmware/drivers for your video card, update to DirectX 9C.

If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you as I've never come across those error messages myself.

I dunno, it looks like I might just have to get a new graphics card, i guess gforce4 doesn't support the texture & shading stuff, even though it reccomends gforce. It's about time for a ram upgrade I suppose as well. Thanks.

512 more ram, and a 9800 class or greater video card should help a ton.

Actually with 447MB and being the eMachine that it is... it would not suprise me if the GeForce4 was integrated and sharing 64MB of system ram leaving you technically with 448, but your bios is saving ~1MB for something

I'm not entirely sure about issues of compatability, but which Geforce 4 are you using? If you're using the Mx420 or the Ti4200, they may not support the shading and features required by the EQII engine. If you're using the Ti4400, Ti4600 or better then nevermind.

I have a couple of questions...

If God is among us and playing EQ2 why doesn't he have a better computer to play it with?

Why is God playing EQ2 when there are more important things he should be doing in the world?

And finally... Why is God looking for answers when he is all knowing?

You happen to be exactly right. And it is in fact the aforementioned "Mx420", w/o fancy shmancy shading. Well... I guess that's my punishment for supporting best buy. Thanks again for all the tips, good thing I got a month to save up for upgrades.
