Doom 3 expansion..already
id Software(TM) and Activision, Inc. will unleash an all-new assault on humanity with DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil(TM), the official expansion pack to the fastest selling PC first- person action game ever in the U.S., according to NPD Techworld. Co-developed by Nerve Software and id Software, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil continues the terrifying and intense action of the already classic DOOM 3, which Maxim and Computer Gaming World awarded "five out of five stars" and the Associated Press called "one of the scariest games ever made." Through the discovery of a timeless and evil artifact you now hold the powers of Hell in your hands, and the demons have come to hunt you down and take it back. Following the events of DOOM 3 and featuring new locations, characters and weapons, including the return of the double-barreled shotgun, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil expands the terrifying action that fans and critics have been raving about. The title will require the full retail version of DOOM 3, and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Well, judging from $OE's track record, I think it's safe to say that they already have their first expansion well in hand.
With the first expansion, expect them to be selling you a rough collection of the content they originally intended to include in the live release, but did not have time to complete (even by their own loose interpretation of the word complete), likely cobbled together with some sort of weak storyline.
Also, you can bet that features and enhancements that they promised to implement upon release, or shortly thereafter, yet failed to deliver, will be includedin the paid expansion (where they will likely be focused upon as main selling points). I'd also expect to see things like additional character slots, bank space, and other features which large numbers of beta players expressed interest in, being bundled in with the first (or subsequent) paid expansions.
I think it's likely that they'll announce it once the initial frenzy of unit sales of EQII begins to slack off. Could be even sooner if WoW manages to take enough wind out of their sails, or as an attempt to staunch the hemhorraging of account holders if the live release turns out to be a hideous clusterfuck.
Either way, I would be surprised if the first expansion wasn't released within the first 6 months.
