Why are pickup groups set on FFA loot rules?

Even with loot threshholds, it's still a stupid way to loot.

This has happened SIX TIMES now... Since I started going with complete strangers to instances, it seems like it's an every day occurance. People are so used to hitting the dice icon to roll, they don't even look at the item. Yesterday, a warrior won a kickass cloth helm. Earlier that day, a rogue won a 15int/8spirit necklace. They don't look.

When I group with friends, we put it on round-robin. If a green item drops, the person that looted the corpse gets it... unless someone speaks up with a, "whoah, I'll roll on that..." or something similar. When a blue item drops that nobody needs, we all roll on it for AH. Easy system.

Taxx and I have grouped with new people, and they always seem to want FFA. And then, they always roll on every fucking item that drops. Yesterday, after losing out on a cloth robe, cloth legs and an assload of gems... I had the chance to 'roll' on a blue dagger. The highest roll was a 32 and I was the only person that still needed to roll. I asked the group if anyone needed it, and the warrior that won all that shit (and like, 5 gems...) said that he'd definitely use it because it's a huge upgrade. So, I passed on it and he got it. The rest of the instance, he never swapped to daggers... until the very end when we did an escort quest with super-easy mobs to kill. He said in group, "this dagger is great, up to 40 skill now." So... I gave him a fairly nice dagger so he could skill up in it. And later, he'll go auction all his shit for another 10g.

This isn't the EQ mindset that I'm used to. If something drops, people should say that they need it... and they get it. If two people want it, they roll. I saw a mage get a KICK ASS dagger, even after the rogue in the group linked us his ghetto green dagger 10 levels old. People are way more cut-throat in this game =/.

What dagger was it out of curiosity?

I fucking hate gimps who are like that. Just like our group in Uldaman a few weeks ago, stupid fucking rogue doesn't even look at the item, just hits the dice and wins cloth legs...OOPS SORRY GUYS!!111#@@

What blows my mind even more is that these people know the fucking beta will be over in a few weeks yet they're still greedy fucktards.

Maybe not 'kick-ass' but... I mean, it didn't even have INT or anything useful for a mage... the rogue's dagger was at least 10dps less. I cried for him. As did Argentina.

I had very good experiences levelling on Beta 3, and people were much more cool with items than in EQ or DAOC.

I think a big problem is Beta 2 is filled with more of the phat lootzer/wannabe powergamer coold00d crowd, Vonk.

I'd guess at release the crowd will be more similar to the EQ need before greed mentality, Bnet kiddies notwithstanding.

Yeah it is kickass, and I was using one until like 2 levels ago when I spent 150g on new swords...daggers to upgrade from that one are few and far between.

VOnk is a 42 priest.

Vonk when you start a pick up group do round robin, period. NBG tell them. Or only group with guildies.

I'm almost never starting the group... I'm always invited for pickups... usually from people that grouped with me before (hey, he never loots, let's get THAT priest) or people who have heard of my legendary wang.

Groups i'm in other than guild we always do round robin , tho 85% of time i'm grouped with guild.

I saw a mage gnome in Tarren mill, I cant remember the name, but they were from your guild, and I stood there and they tried to antogonize me and I laughed and they went forth and killed the guards, and I just stood there. It was rather humorous, so tell that female gnome mage I said hello.

I let Jmann die repeatedly in Stranglethorn long ago, everytime I would engage some trolls he would pull the named one like a fucking retard. I would vanish and he'd get another mob on him...he couldn't handle it and died many times.
