65 monk looking for guild
Uhh... hello... again... everyone...
Most probably don't remember me. Infact it would probably be safe to say that very few ever even knew me from the get-go, I've been playing EQ off and on since '99 and now im somewhat back with a vengance, i been playin hardcore for about a month now and im lookin for a nice guild to take me to the next step, I've never really done too much raiding in EQ. One badly screwed up Nagafen raid that I led, and suprisingly we won... I damn near ripped all my hair out in the process though. Anyways... yeah... if any guilds out there are interested in a ghetto oldskool equiped 65 monk look me up ingame or post here.

play a shadowknight or a berserker, they are the most useful classes in eq
ok to that reply i have to say i think sony personally hates me because i used to play a shadow knight back in kunark days, you know when they were down there with pallys as the most useless class in the game, then of course i got tired of being useless so i picked up monk. which i figure will be useful cuz hell they outtank warriors with the right equipment, and i liked FD pulling from my SK. Of course, two weeks after that SKs get fix #1 to be followed by like 7 more since i've been playing EQ, and of course what happens to monks right when i start having fun outtanking warriors in the low 50s? they go and nerf monks making them the worst tank in EQ =/ so sorry guys, its obviously my fault that monks got nerfed ><

The monk used to be a very good class that was fun to play and useful to a group or guild. Now I cannot see a reason to play a monk anymore. When looking back to it, the monk nerf was probably the one reason that made me stop playing EQ for about 1 year and a half. I came back recently but no way am I gone play a monk.

oh... here we go...
yeah i know the ber/sk thing was a joke, but that doesn't mean i can't answer it seriously.
And as far as monks being put in their place then i'd say theres a lot of other classes that need to be "put in their place" as well... but hey... thats EQ just like life... unfair
but anyways, i don't need a guild anymore, Infusion picked me up, and they roxor ^_^ not the buffest group of people to ever play EQ but definitely one cool group of peeps.
Feel free to reply and tell me how much im wrong *shrug*

I was surprised when I started playing again just how few monks are running around these days. Its a shame because that class used to be pwn.

That's because most monks have retired or are playing other classes now. Bottom line is, monks aren't a needed class. For groups or raids. Especially at the high end of things.
Monks use to offer 3 things:
1. Pulling. No one was consistantly better/safer at pulling than a good monk. When someone needed a puller, monks were at the top of the list, in most cases.
Thanks to the changes in lull/pac line(which was great for other classes, like paladins) and the simple fact that so damn many mobs CAN be lulled, monks were dropped as puller of choice. So much so that there are people who have never seen or even knew monks were good at pulling.
What use to take "real" game skills to safely pull, can now be done by any moron with the ability to lull/pac. So much for being challenged by the game.
2. Monks use to be gods of DPS thanks to high damage to ratio weapons that were almost exclusively monk-only weapons. The tranquil staff was just unreal back then. And it was practically priceless.
But other classes caught up and surpassed monks in this department. In both raid gear and bazaar gear. Now all melee classes could have weapons that had higher damage than delay. And most, if not all, have far more choices in said weapons. Even when there are decent monk weapons available, like the SoFW, the price is insane compared to other melee weapons of similiar design.
Once again monks lose.
3. Tanking/tank mezzing mobs for groups.
Then the "nerf" was added to the mixture. Because of a bunch of crybaby warriors couldn't STFU about it, Sony decided to screw over monks by ruining their damage mitigation. In a way that ONLY effects monks. Not druids or beastlords, both of whom also wear leather. Just monks.
Monks use to make damn good rampage tanks and were excellent at off tanking adds when needed. Not any more. Oh sure, monks can still off-tank most PoP or earlier era mobs, assuming they are geared with the top of the line equipment. Which most aren't.
Besides the above mentioned examples, the nerf crippled monks solo abilities to the extreme. This ruined play time for a lot of monks.
I'm sure there are other reasons I'm not thinking off at the moment, but those are the 3 big reasons why you don't see many monks running around. Including me...
